Go for it! This is one of the mods on my list, I love open top wheelin. As for weight savings, I don't think it'll be much once you add the weight of the roll-cage and stuff.

I'm chopping my roof in the next few weeks. The JD2 is supposed to show up on Monday so it'll be fully caged, box tube rock slider etc etc. Losing the roof will help offset the weight gain the cage is gonna create, that chunk has got to weigh about 70 pounds or so...
