OK I guess I'll get a lockright for the front.... videos

its just like having an open diff, all it would do is deliver power to the tire that is locked, therefore giving you better traction than 2wd and better steering than 4wd locked /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

oohh, Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: OK I guess I\'ll get a lockright for the front.... videos

So is a lockright going to hold up to street driving in a 14bolt and 38" tires? Should I go with a soft locker instead /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

I want a locker thats quite and not going to chew up my tires on the way to the "the spot"

Mine is beyond noisy at times but I've got 80W-90 in it.

Still no complaints.

Mine is noisy too, I run 85w-140. Does the clicks around corners, and ocassionally the hard bang when reengaging if accelerating too hard coming off a turn. Mines in a 12 bolt though, most should be similar acting. I find if I turn and let off gas quickly as it shifts gear ,it goes in great. But I can't complain, I wanted to WALK up hills when I wheel so you live with it /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Re: OK I guess I\'ll get a lockright for the front.... videos

I use the Redline gear oil in my axles. My front axle has a lockright in a 10 bolt. I have never heard a peep from my lockright with the Redline Heavy Shockproof gear oil. It is 75W250 and is thick as hell. It totally quites the Lockrights down.

Mine is in a 7.5" Ford. I can't believe the loud bang that I get once in a while isn't abnormal. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif The clicking around corners I hardly ever notice or feel, just once in a while I'll get a loud ass bang.

Had an old man tell me my tires were loose once. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Re: OK I guess I\'ll get a lockright for the front.... videos

Don't try and poor it during the winter. You will be waiting till summer.

I try and do my gear oil changes during the summer for that reason, and if I can't wait till it is 100+ degrees here in Phoenix I toss it in the microwave for a little bit till it thins out some. The stuff is like glue though. It sticks to everything and once a surface is coated with oil it will always be coated with oil which is a nice piece of mind when my truck has been sitting for awhile.

I know its normal, and I will get over it, but it sure sounds like when my gov-loc let go on me. That wasn't a good day /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

That's a mighty fine way to irritate wheel bearings.

Pour point must not me that high if it's 75W250.

Re: OK I guess I\'ll get a lockright for the front.... videos

It can't be that impressive if she sticks it in the microwave or she can't pour it in the winter... which the winter there is a heck of a lot warmer than it is here.

On my ten bolt, it requires oil to be forced up against the cover by the ring gear, it then slides down through the holes on the back side of the axle near the carrier bearing caps, and down to the wheel bearings. It takes a lot to persuade oil to go down there and if it's like liquid lithium grease it'll take even longer.

Re: OK I guess I\'ll get a lockright for the front.... videos

would the GM limited slip additive help any with the locker? I'm guessing no, but instead of shooting up to a 250w oil what about slick additives for 140w oil? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I'mn thinking the 250w just slows the locker from snapping back closed trying to move threw the molasis like oil /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif I'm going to have to buy some for shits and giggles /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: OK I guess I\'ll get a lockright for the front.... videos

I run 80w90 semi-synthetic (because it is the same price as regular dinosaur oil here) with SlipCoat in it. I've been ripped on before for running SlipCoat but I run it nonetheless. I know it improved gas mileage and helped out the T5 in my Sonoma but I don't know about this truck. Gas mileage changes with a fart in the wind.

Re: OK I guess I\'ll get a lockright for the front.... videos

I love the lock right in my 60... course with the hydro, you can't really notice the increased steering resistance. One thing I haven't noticed anyone talking about is that with the front lockers you have a better chance of breakin junk, especially in a 10 bolt.

Just my .02... /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I don't have a front one ....YET. There are some warn hub fuses coming my way and that should prevent it. Warn premiums for 1/2 tons will accept these according to warns site. They strip before the u-joint/axles do...supposedly /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

WHAT UP DAN!

Yeah breakage is a concern... right now the axle sits with a minispool installed /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif Thats why I'm looking into a regular locker, I have NO experience with any thats why I have three posts up asking questions about different locker types /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif Not real cracked on a std detroit in the rear (too noisy too rough), I'm looking at lockrights front and rear right now because of the $$$, if I have the $$$ at the time maybe the newer softlocker in the rear.

Hydro and steering is an interesting point /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif
I'm wanting to get the rig back on all fours with all the floors, maybe hydro will be my winter project. I seen the way you guys drive /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif That aint me, I want to do some trails and some mud. I'd much rather bump a tree than a rock /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Right now I'm converting a 10bolt front to 8lug and I still need to go pickup my 14bolt. the front 10bolt has 5.13's and a minispool, the 14 is open. I've had thoughts of just welding the rear and leaving the minispool in the front but I want to turn occationaly /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

I know D60's are better and all, but after the purchase price of the axles, gears and 8lug swap I should have less than $500 in a locked 10bolt with 5.13's and 14boltFF with 5.13's (if I leave in the minispool and weld the rear /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif) Not bad for an unemployeed guy /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Tell me more about these fuses!? /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif
Can you unlock them when your on the road or are they fulltime hubs?

Re: OK I guess I\'ll get a lockright for the front.... videos

Someone told me on here that you can't use fuse hubs w/ a front locker installed.
