i run ORD's flip. Its significantly beefier than the frame is in that area, so its plenty strong. Fit/finish were flawless, never had a single problem with it. All of that said, this isn't the most complex part you'll find on a truck... skys or backyardbuilt would probably work just fine too.

I run a Springer shackle flip with Ford springs and Im realy happy with it.

Install is 100% bolt in and you get tons of flex and a great ride

…What is "gusseting"….

[/ QUOTE ]
A gusset (pronounced gus-set) is additional material (like webbing) to help strengthen a component or structural member.

And the definition according to Webster: a plate or bracket for strengthening an angle in framework

Marv Springer is a user here that used to make this set up. He sold the design to Az Kickin Off Road a year or so ago. LOOK HERE

what about "home made" by cutting your stock hangers. (if your not hard core) I've read here many people who are very happy with the cheap route. And if I were to do it with stock parts what's the lift I should expect?

[/ QUOTE ]

mine are home made with 63's so i couldnt tell you what kind of lift i got outta them. but i wheel mine just as hard as the next guy and there have been no problems

Re: OK, I\'ve been looking at shackle flips, Who\'s do you run ?

OK, how many people here have just cut the stock hanger and ran it this way? Doens't it take away from the integrity of the hanger it self? Wouldn't you have to cut a pretty good size hole in it to get all of your shackle travel without hitting the hanger? /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

Re: OK, I\'ve been looking at shackle flips, Who\'s do you run ?

yeah, it wrecks a little bit of strength, but it was built as a pickup, and i'm not gonna be "picking up" with it.

in other words, if i towed or hauled, id beef it. thats 2 years and a dozen wheeling trips old

Re: OK, I\'ve been looking at shackle flips, Who\'s do you run ?

I am running an Echobit shackle flip with no problems. I would advise against using a lowering shackle if you wheel it in the rocks, they will not hold up trust me I know. I like the ORD shackle flips and have been considering going with theirs for my daily driver.

Re: OK, I\'ve been looking at shackle flips, Who\'s do you run ?

I wouldn't cut the hanger and not gusset it and leave it alone. I don't feel that is safe.

Re: OK, I\'ve been looking at shackle flips, Who\'s do you run ?

under the worst conditions you'll have less than an eigth of the unsprung weight of the vehicle on that ungusseted bracket. and it will always be in tension... i feel fine.

Re: OK, I\'ve been looking at shackle flips, Who\'s do you run ?

you will have to brace it up with some steel to make it strong again.

Re: OK, I\'ve been looking at shackle flips, Who\'s do you run ?

I have the ORD 4" shackle flip with 2.5" TCI springs and greaseable bushings. THe rear is super flexy and rides like a caddy and the shackle flip pointed my pinion up just the right ammount for when I want to get a 1-ton CV shaft in the rear...

Does the 10% off apply to the shackle flips? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Thanks - I was envisioning a:
"piece of armor covering the joints in a suit of armor"
or maybe
"a usually diamond-shaped or triangular insert in a seam (as of a sleeve, pocketbook, or shoe upper) to provide expansion or reinforcement"
