OK, So How About A Ford 6.9 or 7.3? Chuck The 6.2...

First of all 6.2 is a good diesel for what it is.You'll never get any real power with out spending money!

Why are saying that Cummins are over priced ?
1) The power that they can make (no money ) just time.
2) They last longer, parts are alway's in stock.
3) They don't have the problems that the other diesel have(older ones)

FWIW, I would agree with the statement that the Cummins is overpriced.. You get what you pay for, though.. Esp. if you locate a clean, P7100 pumped, 215HP 12 valver with less than 200k miles on it..

If the current owner or boneyard pimp does his homework, they can nab ~$2k+ for the 12v engines alone.. But, like everything else, you can probably find a better deal if you search around and/or "have a buddy" who owns a junkyard with loads of totaled '96-'98 Dodge (5 spd) diesels.. I have heard of people paying as little as $800 for a Cummins, and as much as $5k... The average seems to hover around $2500-$2800....

Thanks in part to my impatience and a VERY savvy / greedy junkyard baron, I paid about $3k for my 12v Cummins.. I only thought about it for 20 or 30 seconds (remember - I'm impatient) & haven't looked back since.. Yeah, I pad a LOT & yeah - my truck will sound & smoke like a tractor - but it represents everything I love: great design (2WD GM 3500 crew cab, dually.. slammed) with a great 6 banger DIESEL - Cummins.. The way GM SHOULD have done it, IMHO... Simple to work on, simple to run, and economical.. More so than the 454, anyway!

Different strokes, yada yada yada.. Any diesel variant / repower is damn cool in my book - just BUILD it..!!!

Just a little concerned about the "weaknesses" of the 6.2, not the weakness. I've got 2 Banks Turbos looking for trucks... Ran one for several months 'till I melted a piston. That kind of weakness... but it also had 160k of "oil change?" what's that???

So weren't you running an EGT guage on that 6.2? Melting a piston isn't something I'd call finding a "6.2 weakness"...

I'd have to agree.

Now I look like a GM (6.2) basher...

This truck was rotted beyond belief, and the owner could'nt have cared less about changing the oil. Any repairs were done with bailing wire and sheet-rock screws. I spent days getting it "right". Just to undo the hack stuff.

I always paid close attention to the EGT, and the fuel wuz turned up. It was smoking real bad. Maybe from the turbo, maybe the rings, who knows? But even when you didn't think it wuz smoking, a cars' headlights from behind would tell the tale... Get on the boost, and swoooosh, oil smoke.

Cold starts, it would cloud my narrow driveway (on block htr all night), so I'd almost immed pull away, and she would clatter big-time. Loose clearances- a hard life she led... One day I'll pull the pan and give 'er a post-mortem...

A neighbor always says I accentuate the negative- that's me...

There is a big difference between smoke, Black = fuel/no air, Blue = oil, White = water.

Which one is it at cold start up or cold chamber with too much fuel? white?
