Anyone have any info on old Hummer tires. 36x12.5x16.5 mud tires. My cousin picked up some new looking ones and is gonna sell 'em since he has nothing to run them on. How is the tread wear?? Ive heard a couple people say they couldnt get them to balance and had vibrations on freeway. I wanna put them on my 85 K5 that has 6" lift and 4.56's. These are what they look like: http://www.rccarparts.biz/images/9445529-2.JPG

From what I recall there are two types. The Bias ply tires and the radials. The Bias tires are pretty bad for road use. They wear out quick on pavement. The radials were much better suited to on-road use. They usually come from the army in pretty good shape. I think I might get a set if I get the K5 I'm looking at right now.

I didnt look closely at them, do the radials say radial on the sidewall? Or is there a way looking at them to tell if they are radial or bias ply? My K5 is not a DD but if I want to make a 2 hour road trip to wheel on some dunes or pull a small boat or trailer I dont want to worry about my tires.

Oh and for reference i was quoted from him:

JFP's are 65ea
Just the tires shipped to a business or picked up at the dock listed below $133

393.00 total

Those are some crazy tire deals.:deal: Now Im pissed I have to spend more than that for 31" tires on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. :(

My brother-in-law got a set from the DRMO for about $220, I think. That's including the HWMMV beadlocks that they came on! He put them on his 1 ton CUCV truck. He says they don't ride very well at all on the road and there's no way he can get them to balance. They're the 36" bias ply version.

for 400 bucks youre getting reamed. but that said, my buddy put them on the stock k30 and they didnt need any balance or anything. hope yall can see this. and for the price theyre pretty worth it IMO.

It could have been the wheels that wouldn't let him balance them. At least he can mount tires on them himself without any special equipment.
