Old Iron 2.0

Yea, hopefully I can scrape some of the crap off on some rock ledges when I back get to CO.

Wow. Crusty Demon of Dirt. Looks the like the truck was close enough to something that was burning it melted the grille.

The tree growing in the back is a nice touch too! If it runs and drives that's a bonus. The little things you can fix.

Good score!

Yea the grill is a little melted, not sure from what though.

Rolling around today and my rear end locked up on me, thought it was the brakes so I jacked it up and took the tires and drums off. Brakes were fine, my buddy told me the grinding sound was coming from the diff.

Pulled the diff cover, completely dry in there... ring and pinion ate each other up.

Cheap truck problems...

I sold a buddy some 1/2 ton axles about a year and a half ago and installed the front one for him (you could grab his front pinion yoke and twirl it around in the diff lol) he's selling me back the rear axle for $50.

The axle that's going under has 3.42 gears I believe. I have no clue what gears are in truck as of now, I'm gonna assume 3.73.

Gonna pick the good axle up tonight and hopefully have it installed during lunch tomorrow.

Hahaha awesome carnage in there!

I`m betting its got 3.42 or 3.08 in the front.
Better yet just count whats left of the gears in the back.

The ring gear won't even turn so I'm probably gonna pull the front cover, put new fluid in a seal it up. Gonna find a gear ratio stamping while I'm in there.

First thing that came to mind when I saw the chewed up gears was a 14SF. Found two on local Craigslist, one was $500 and the other was like $250. Then I remembered my buddy that I sold them 1/2 ton axles too and called him.

14SF would have been nice but I think I may throw my tons under the truck when I get to CO in about a month.

Yeah check the oil in everything while you are at it!

I keep getting free or cheep trucks because they don't work...I add oil where its needed and holly crap they work again! I don't get people?
Their loss my gain!

Picked up the axle and started working on things.

Ran out of daylight but got the bad axle pulled.

Broke the bleeder screw flush off in the passenger side backing plate on the "good" axle... kinda glad it happened cause I pulled both drums on that axle and everything was f**kered all the way up with rust and centipedes and stuff.

Gonna swap all the brake stuff off of the bad axle onto the good axle tomorrow.

*** Do you have to have a special tool to take the C-Clips off of the axle shafts on a 12 bolt?

*** Do I have to pull the carrier to get to the C-Clips?
