Howdy all. I’m Joe. Off-road shop Tech, long time wheeler, based out of Arvada,CO. Long time lurker, finally making my way back to a K5. Made a deal to pick this ole’ gal up on the 14th. 1984 Jimmy, 305/465, 4” lift. FWC. All I know about it currently. I’ll be looking forward to chatting with y’all and making some trail runs.

I’m currently am down with a leg injury of rare proportions, so it’ll be a while before I dig into it. But the initial plan is to go through the minimum maintenance neglect it has seen, pull the camper to be repaired/rebuilt/sold, put on a soft top and start enjoying it. Really excited to get this out doing work.

Thank you for your time.

I’ve not seen it in person yet. Owner said both lift panels are broken. But that the heat and water were functional. I’m inclined to gut the entire thing and re-skin it. But we’ll see. The Jimmy comes first. My eventual over all goal is to be ORD Linked front and rear. Stuck between which engine swap I’ll commit to. Lots of time to get there I suppose. I’m a long time Samurai guy, so the slow 305 is right at home for me.

My very first rig was an 83 Chevy 305/465 with 3.07 and 35’s. I wheeled the crap out of that truck. Learned so much with it to!

This rig will end up full 40” crawler status while staying as nice and straight as possible. Plan to paint it a specific Nissan Green. Should be a good time.

Will definitely end up with an NV4500 or T-4050 and an ORD Magnum. But I’m between 8.1, medium built 6.0, and an OM606 with boost. But like I said, lots of time for that decision to come about.

I remember seeing the ad for it.
Really cool that you are going to build it, and you know that the camper is worth saving and selling.

Looking forward to watching you go to work!

Where about in Arvada? I’m over off of 52nd and Ward. The camper looks decent. Lift panels are an easy fix with some electrical conduit and some hardware.

If I had a place to put it I’d be interested in the camper too. It has value for the right person no doubt. If you need help removing it let me and @Capt Ron know we can help as we have a done that operation a few times each.

Looks to me like the camper window is covered with a chunk of plexiglass.

I spy the remains of an old CK5 sticker on the windshield too. Wonder if anybody here recognizes it.

Oh yeah if you want to check out an 8.1 in a k5 just let me know.

Welcome too!

Thanx for responding. I’ve spent the last 4 weeks doing a ton of CK5.com research. Read through your entire build. In the past, I was a huge fan of Larry’s build. I’m half way through the info of Capt. Ron. So we’ll aware of y’all’s trials. 3 of the 4 weeks were in the ER waiting for my leg to heal enough to be sent home. Did a ton of research and shopping during all the downtime. As soon as it’s I. My possession, I’ll do a great once over and post up with its overall condition. I’m capable of removing the camper myself, but will never turn down knowledgeable help!

I’m off 62nd and Gray. So we’re close.

I’m considering doing the long trip home and camping out before coming home. I have to leave town around 3:30 am Saturday the 14th. And I’ve considered taking it to Halfmoon Creek to camp for the night, then home on Sunday. New rig I don’t know or trust, plus adventure, equals good stories! My wife is not so keen to it!

But hey, I’ve had worse ideas.

Sounds like a good adventure.

Where do you have to go to pick it up?

The removal of the camper is fun with a couple of well hidden bolts besides the fun of finding the balance point of the camper on jacks.

Grand Junction. Was thinking taking 24 down to Leadville and camping just before Halfmoon Creek. There are some really cool campsites down that way. Then maybe run Halfmoon before heading home. All weather and snowmelt dependent of course.

I should be around Saturday, if you run into anything that you could use some assistance from an old guy, let me know.

Might inspect the top hold downs, especially the front ones. There seems to be an issue with them loosening up after a few miles.

Welcome!

I love "money is no object" builds!
