Old new guy! New old guy?

I have a tailgate, I will try to remember to get some pictures.

Whoa whoa whoa! Money is definitely an object! The initial purchase is the end of my budget. Hahaha.
Just got a quote for the T4050...6k+ for the kit...over 3k for just the trans...I was curious myself.

I got a similar quote for a tr-4050. My eyes bugged out. It solidified my reasoning for getting a rebuilt nv-4500. Go to the right guy and they can replace the finicky carbon fiber synchros for brass ones.

The Tremec is probably a great trans but I can’t justify the price of entry.

I received a lower, but high quote myself! Definitely speedy. The decision will come down to timing for me. If I can find the 4500 I’m looking for at the time, I’ll do that. Otherwise, I’ll go 4050.

Worst part is, I had an LQ4/4500 donor I trusted, until FedEx took it away from me. ****ers. And the insurance buy back was to high to justify getting it back.

Jeeze. What the hell did the fedex truck do?

I’d call Steve’s Transmission in Denver a call for a 4500. He gave a me a great price for a fresh rebuild and did it right. You’ll be under half the Tremec price.

My truck died on the side of I76, likely ran out of fuel due to a finicky gauge. Well, before I could get back to it to add fuel and drive home, a tandem FedEx truck side swiped my truck, destroying it. Was a bad for sure. Loved that truck. But, it ultimately led to my 8.1 Burb I paid way to much for, so not a total loss.

Ouch. Glad you weren’t in the truck too.

Well fellas! It’s home! I got a chance to kind of look at it a bit. I decided to tow it home, so I installed my adjustable tow bar and gave her hell back to denver! Was an eventful day.

Today I drove to a buddy’s house close by, and it does pretty well. Clutch feels good, but needs adjusted. T case shifts well, but I have not driven in 4x yet. The engine starts well, idles great, and drives smooth. But the throttle pedal kind of seems a little stiff. It’s been a long time since I’ve driven a square, but I think it’s a bit tight.

The inside of the camper is in pretty good shape. I did find some mouse evidence, but only in one spot so far, and very minimal damage. I won’t have the roof popped up for a while, as the lift risers? are broken, and I’m not currently able to get inside of it with my leg. However, zero noticeable water damage, and generally well cared for.

Camper exterior is 38 ish years in the sun faded, but in good shape. The top has a weird bend in it on the front edge. All the clamps seem to be good and functional. The door has been reskinned in the past, based on a receipt. I have the key for the knob, but it doesn’t actually lock.

At some point on the past, the ice box was replaced for an actual fridge. Based on the receipt pile I have.

Cool point of info, I have all the original paperwork, including the window sticker. Which is cool, since I don’t have an RPO sticker.

We have a four leaf Superlift 4” kit with DEAD shocks. Rides pretty nice I think, just bouncy. The 305 is all stock with a splash of maintenance. 465/208 appear solid. Still have the auto front hubs. The rear feels like it possibly has a locker in it. And the guy I purchased from felt like it had been regeared. It has 285/75-16 Brand New 2008 tires on it, with a fancy steel wheel. But the fenders are possibly cut for 37’s. I’ve had a 4” with 35’s in the past, and didn’t cut nearly this much.

The ignition switch doesn’t always start, so I’ll be ordering one. Also noticed the brights are turning on. But the blower motor blows really well, so that’s cool. A/C system appears to be complete, accept for the missing belt. But the compressor isn’t locked up. It also has the $38 optional electric clock in the left bottom gauge hole, win!

More to come!6D9B463C-7728-46BA-823F-1AAF7E39866C.jpegA15F67E2-D27E-44AB-AF25-2AD97F18E96D.jpegD6643DC0-E536-4A9D-A44A-43782F4EB093.jpeg2BD6A9BC-8D86-42AB-94C6-2A14243943EA.jpeg3D1F61B7-B8D5-4D7C-8022-0693FE1E067E.jpeg9D867821-773F-4A11-B1E7-B985251320BF.jpeg41A23C7D-2EF1-494E-A7B4-CD265B320752.jpegCEC5FC32-FECA-46F7-A8F8-C8E76812DA20.jpegFE727456-49D7-4392-933F-C74A3DFBDA26.jpeg

In '84, I believe the SPID is on the inner fender well instead of the glovebox for some stupid reason.

I can confirm. Although I once heard that it depended on what plant the truck was made at. My '84 is from Ottawa Canada and it's on the inner fender.

Looks awesome. Glad you got it home. The bow in the roof is probably from somebody shutting it and latching it with something on the upper bunk. It probably tweaked the frame slightly.

The cut fenders make me think this truck has been a little more built in its past life than it is now.

That was my thoughts exactly.

My window sticker said something about Canada. So that’s probably where it is.

Fun times! Went to DMV yesterday to change title and get a temp tag. First time I can remember ever walking in and being seen right then. Weird times! Well it happened so quick, I figured I’d go do emissions and get a baseline for how bad it fails, knowing I would visually at minimum. I know for a fact that I’m missing the cat, the smog pump, possibly the egr valve, and have 2 lines from the canister plugged off. To my utter surprise, I pass visual, damn lazy kids, but fail the roller/sniffer, miserably! The CO allowance is 55 parts, and I pulled 279.5766. HC allowed 5, and I pulled a 20.8. So utter fail.

So my rock auto cart has 25 items in it now! Not certain what exhaust direction I want to go just yet.

Hey LS swap guys, what are y’all doing for cats with your swaps in CO?304401A3-9720-4622-88AC-C63300759601.jpegA43D9429-192B-41C0-89E5-BB8F2112A666.jpeg

Cats? Just renewed registration in the non-emissions county. No cats.

To be helpful though, to do it right you’ll have to get cats with a carb eo# to pass the inspection. The little magnaflow cats I was going to use are not legal to sell in Colorado. I might have got those to fit but I have no way of fitting the legal cats in mine without a complete redo of my exhaust.

Keep this in mind too, you must have all the emissions equipment that came with the later engine you swap into an earlier vehicle. As in complete evap system with fuel tank pressure sensor and everything else that came on it. You will have to get the unit inspected and certified by an emissions technical center and put down on form DR2365.

Many props to those that jump through the hoops. I didn’t have time before my plates were due. I’ve got the stuff to put evap on mine and will do so as it helps with the raw gas fumes I get from time to time. I have to really think about the cats. I really don’t have an issue putting them on other than the packaging problem.

Not very often that I am “lucky”. But I ran up to Softopper yesterday to talk about setting up as a dealer, and wouldn’t you know it, they had my preferred soft top in stock!

Capt. Ron is taking the camper off my hands on Sunday, so the top should be on soon. CAEF1ACA-05D3-42C3-9721-6414E220D5DD.jpeg

Definitely gonna be following this one. Sounds like you're considering doing some of the things I've thought of, so it'll be nice to see someone else do them first.
