[Old No.7]..... Interior work.

Now a month or so on how do you like it? How's it holding up?

What clear did you use?

I didn't flat-clear it.
I just hear that's the best long term solution.

The only downside that I'm noticing, Is that EVERY scratch shows.

Thoughts on fixing that?

Any abnormal fading or dust retention?

No fading whatsoever.
She's still as even as the day she was painted, and she sits in the sun ALL day.

The truck gets dusty, but all black paintjobs seem to get dusty faster.
That's just the way it is. :dunno:

The paint cures to an incredibly hard consistency.
I was actually pretty shocked.
For cheap paint, w/ no hardener, I was crossing my finger's.

Heard people say it was soft...but then I kinda wonder if they truly had the same paint. Used Rustoleum before on other things and never seemed soft to me?:dunno:

How long would you say it took to cure?
Going to take my scrap piece of metal and leave it sitting out for a while. See how it holds up to the KY elements.

Most guys shoot it wrong.
They either do one thin coat, thenm a bunch of thick...
Or, they just shoot a bunch of thick coats.

I did two thin coats, then a thick coat, waited a day, wet-sanded, then another thick coat.
I let it cure for 7 days after that.
Then, I washed the CRAP out of it.

I'd say it went from a dark-black "wet look",
to a flat-black dry look in 3 days.

But I wouldn't put water on it for 7 days, after the last coat.
The paint "wants" to retain moisture, for the first few days.
The last two days are hardening days.

Or... you could pick up a couple heat lamps, and flash it off in a couple hours.

Thanks man.

Wet sand between the coats?
How long did you wait between the coats?

I decided that, since I have all the parts for the non-wastgated turbo, I'm gonna use that.
I'd like to use the wastegated turbo, but the cost to get everything together outweighs the benefit's.

Anybody want a wastegated Bank's Sidewinder and braided return line?

What's the difference between the two? Are they different trims? I'm not sure if it applies to diesels but I would imagine the only extra thing you would need would be a "dump" tube back into the exhaust or maybe even open atmosphere dump if you like the sound.

Wastgates are designed to release extra pressure.
This allows for a smaller turbine, which builds boost (turbo pressure) faster.

Basically, since they limit themselves, they can build boost at lower RPM's,
and dump it out at the top end of the throttle curve.

Non-wastegated turbo's build boost indefinitely.
The more skinny pedal you give it, the more boost you get.

The drawback's to not having a wastegate are:

1) Boost builds at higher RPM's, not the best for city driving.
2) If you give it too much.... You'll know about it. (head gaskets blow.)

I'm just gonna install an external wastegate, in my up pipe.
I might get a Hypermax turbo, down the road, but who knows....

Hell, I might have a different engine, somewhere down the road. :D

Thanks to 1970worthog, I should have this HP-D60, tomoro night! :woot:
Thanks for tossin' me the link, buddy! :thumb:

When I called, the guy gave me the axle code and serial number.
He also told me that it was out of a '90 F-350, and had been sitting for a year.

I checked the axle code, and sure enough, he was right/ not lying!:woot:
Checked out as 88-91.5, F-350, 4.10, open carrier.
So, it should swap right in... :pimp:

Now to get some REAL x-over steering, a lift, and some 33's.
I decided on 33's.

You guy's win....
-------------------------------

As for the turbo, I decided to use the wastegated one.
For the obvious reason's.

I now have everything, except the exhaust crap.
That'll be fabbed at a local muffler shop, after I install the turbo stuff.

Gotta get off my a$$... The Ferd is catchin' up with me! :haha:

Fords have always(?) been driverside drop.

Glad to see my countless hours of criusing craigslist finally paid off lol
Now hurry and get that thing in there lol

i understand that.. but it certainly doesn't make it a "swap right in" axle..

Unless I've missed something, it's getting installed in a Ford...so it should be a bolt in affair. :dunno:
