So since I seem to work on my truck every other day, I would start a build thread.

So turns out the previous owner of my blazer was a member here on Ck5 (Thunder) found this add in the for sale section. Here is his old add:

89 Chev Blazer Silverado.
TBI, 350, 700r4, 3.73 gears, 241 Xfer case, 4" RC suspension lift (NO BLOCKS) Good 12.50 x33" AT tires. Rock sliders/steps, Receiver hitch, trailer brakes, AC, Power windows/locks, cruise, Good Pioneer sound system, tach, Clean interior except dash has a coulpe of cracks. Everything works good.
Paint and body are in good condition for a trail truck. Paint has brush scratches and body has a few rock kisses. Minor stuff.
I am the second owner of this truck. I bought it in 1999 with 52000 miles from the original owner.
It currently has 135,000 original miles. I have kept this truck very well maintained.
It has many many new parts and extras.
Engine:
TBI 350. 580 CFM bored stock throttle body, K&N filter, TB spacer, injector spacer, power charger, adjustable fpr, MSD coil. New power steering pump, Water pump, Idler Pulleys, Starter, HD fan clutch, Oil cooler, 18000gvw transmission cooler. Edelbrock TES 3"single exhaust system with stainless steel headers, Flowmaster 70 muff. Runs strong!
Trans: Stock orginal 700r4, Fluid change every year. Shifts perfict.
Front end:
10 bolt 30 spline.
New ball joints, bearings, New spicier U joints. new axles, Powertrax no Slip locker.
Rear end is rebuilt open 27 spline.
Newer drive line lengthened to perfectly fit the lift. No vibrations
Extras include:
Complete rear 30 spline 10 bolt with Detroit locker +powertrax lock rite + open carrier. Spare throttle body, U joints, plus various odd and ends.
Brakes are fairly new, new axle seals front and rear, fresh fluids front to back.

:haha:
I was the guy who bought it locally in elko NV,
I drove it for a while in Denver like it was then I started doing stuff to it when I moved down to alabama.

Did a 3/4 ton swap then 1 ton swap with disk brakes and 35 spline outers 4:88. With H1 tires and lockers in front and rear.
Repainted it because it was starting to rust. (Kept the fish on the back tailgate though). I decided against shiny because I would not want to take it offroad and scratch new paint I can always repaint it.

Put a soft topper on it. 305575_10151353714469179_1716548124_n.jpg Pulled out the carpet because I ruined that crossing bodies of water and herculined the floor.
Got a "a-bomb" from diy 4x painted it with bedliner and put a smittybuilt 12k winch. Last night worked with a welder and stuck on a weld on steering box brace and bolt on one. Today I am going to try to fix some of the "death wobble" coming from my newish front axel. Maybe wheel a bit if I can convince my buddies that sand and dirt are not going to kill their trucks.

Here are some more pics:View attachment 139669[/ATTACH]P1121092.JPGP1121094.JPGP1121091.JPG

I am going to try to improve it's off road performance while keeping it relatively street mannered. It's pretty capable now.

Cut off the front fangs hahahaha. Nice looking rig, keep at it.

I wish I had the ballz to paint The Beast all black....
That looks soooo good. :pimp:

Well turns out my front u-bolts were pretty loose. So about 1 hour later with a crows foot to approx 150ft/lbs. that was done. Three of my tires were at 20 psi, probably did not help out much on the death wobble department. Gonna try it out on the highway soon. I also put some zip ties on my high-lift jack's handle, stupid thing was vibrating way too loud.

I have vibrations coming from my rear drive shaft which started after I went to 3/4 tons, so I gotta get it balanced and I need to get an alignment.

Yeah I plan on trimming the fangs in a bit, they get kinda annoying when I hit my head against them when working underneath it.

You can always repaint that's what I plan on doing when I am allowed to buy another vehicle.

Do you still have a slip-yoke on that NP241? Do you still have the factory driveshaft? I was having pretty good vibs when I would let off the gas with my 208 and stock shaft. But then I put a slip-yoke eliminator on a 241 and got a CV rear shaft on it and it rids like a dream now. In most cases it's not that the driveshaft is out of balance it's usually that the slip of the driveshaft is pulled to far out of the yoke of the tcase and that causes some vibs. Also, when you start lifting these things, the angle becomes a little too much for the normal 2 joint shaft. That when CV's come in to play :waytogo:

Deja vu.....

I remember Dale's truck from a long time ago. Good fella too..... Came to my rescue when my Suburban lost its water pump outside of Elko on my cross-country trip. Helped me get into town and get my parts swapped out in the parking lot. :waytogo:

He always seemed like a solid, knowledgeable guy... So my guess is that you didn't have to deal with the typical "previous owner" issues that most of us do.

No me and my wife were impressed at the condition of the truck when we got it. That being said I use it for it's intended purpose which to me is offroading. I got it aligned yesterday, it's nice having the steering wheel sitting the way it's supposed to and driving down the road relatively straight.:D

241

Yeah thought about a slip yoke eliminator, I was not having vibrations until I went to a 14 ff. I was going to get the drive shaft rebalanced as I am sure when I did my axel swap it was installed differently. Considering my 241 is leaking at its rear seal. I'll get some pics this afternoon of it.

love the black! Some chrome would really make it stand out! Uh huh!

If you are planning on going sye, I have the kit in a box in my garage unused, just shoot me a pm. Blew up my 241 before I had a chance to put it in.

I hated the chrome bumpers because whenever they were wet I would slip on them. Climbing in the engine bay with slippery chrome was scary so I replaced it with the a-bomb. I also stripped down the rear bumper and painted it with bedliner. The chrome on the grill was pitted and I wanted a black menacing look so that was painted with bedliner as well.

I went offroading last night down by the river. I was pretty fun I also took along a buddy who had never gone wheeling and let him drive for a bit. There was sand, rocks, and some minor mud pits he was impressed with how it went over everything. No pics of that but here's some of the "aftermath":P1171137.jpg

I copied munepit's idea on the winch connection running through the grill. I have only had to pull other people out since I put the bumper and winch on.

Crossover would be great considering its a bear to turn the tire's now on minor obstacles.

Hah now that I look at it I guess it was nothing to write home about, then again we were the only guys and I did not want to spend 3 hours limping anything home. I just get sick of working on the damm thing and never actually taking it offroad.

Have to ask my wife about that, I am definitely interested. I'll probably rebuilt it while I am installing a SYE. There are shims on the rear springs putting the yoke upward, truck only vibrates above 60 mph now. Here are some of the rear driveline:

From what I have read, when you have a 2-joint shaft like yours, you actaully don't want your pinion to be pointed at the tcase. You want that when you have CV shaft. With a 2-joint you want the pinion pointed more parallell with the ground. If someone else on here knows different feel free to chime in. Have you had your slip yoke on the shaft lengthened at all? If not, that could be causing it too. When the yoke is pulled too far our of the slip, it can cause vibs. Thing this looks bad a by the way. But I think I'm a little bias, if you look at my build thread you can see our K5's look very similar :waytogo:

Ok the solution would be remove the shims on the rear leaf's? I also did not get the rear drive shaft lengthened at all when I put in the rear end.
