NTXJIMMY submitted a new Build:

ONE BIG JIMMY "Everything In TX Is Bigger!"

Here is the start!

1986 GMC Jimmy I'm the 2nd owner bought it from a GM employee about 3 years ago and drove it for about 2 months and the engine was garbage so I rebuilt a 350.
Since I was doing that I decided with a little help that I should fuel inject it instead of the quadra jet garbage it had. So junk yard hopping I go for 2 months getting most of the factory fuel injection parts from a 91 K5. So now I have a factory fuel injected with all it parts and wiring just like the way it came from the factory.
Well that worked for about 200 mile then the trans let go so I bought a new 700R4 and installed that worked for about 4 months.

Without the wrenching help and the crazy hours of research of my buddies Russ and Charlie this would not have happened!!

The start:

Oh boy, what is a 2nd owner of a beautiful truck about to post?

I think Deuling is about to freak and I might be right there with him. :( :)

Well after much consideration and some arguing with the crew we decided to grind all the brackets and mounts off the frame and take it for a little cleaning
have some ideas in mind on replacement cross members and mounts that will help the future phases of this project.

But first I have some parts I need to resource so we can do the mock up before final assembly.

In due time my man!
It's been a long time coming for me and I have had to fight tooth and nail to get this going but I really wanted to share with people that could appreciate it.

At UFC Dallas tonight!!

To build the baddest k5 in North TX lol! :0)

It's a long list that seems to change daily.
I am wanting to build the truck I could not have when I was younger.
It seemed that we always had them around and destroyed them and got newer ones and I never had the money to really do it they way we wanted.

ok well we got the frame all stripped down to where it was almost just frame rails and a crossmember in the front and the very rear holding the two halves together.

After looking around at other projects we decided to do the ORD engine cross member

that way there was no question on if there will be enough room for the engine and if I decide one day to do a swap for more power no problems.
So, we went with the big block crossmember.

I really liked the quality of this crossmember ORD did a great job!

I have seen a couple a K5's in my time and have killed a couple in high school. I have seen the frames crack in the common spots like the steering box mount and the right rear frame rail where the shock mounts to the frame.
I wanted to be able to mount the rear shocks in a little different way so I got this in from DIY4X from Kurt and love it!

Shock inboard kit.

probably got it already, but I highly suggest both the weld-in and bolt-in frame supports for the box area....

thanks.... :D

I run both in everything I build... I would say the weld-in does about 2/3 to 3/4 of the "making it bulletproof" and the bolt-on is that "icing on the cake" 25 to 33%..

what drivetrain and axles are you looking to run?

looking at all the lifts I decided to hit up Kurt at DIY4x again and ordered the rear shackle flip and the 2" larger rear cross tie shackles so I get a total of 6" lift on factory springs also I was able to get the new shock mounting brackets for the rear axle.

the shackles will only give you an inch.... you get 1/2 because it's only the back 1/2 of the spring...

just throw a zero rate or add an inch in there for the last inch if needed.. plus it let's you move your axle back an inch or 1.5"... also nice for up front to get you out of the firewall with bigger meats...
