ONE BIG JIMMY "Everything In TX Is Bigger!"

Started working on the coolant surge tank
I picked up a Tahoe tank back some time ago and now it’s time to get it mounted
I trimmed on of the mounting leafs off
Ground down 2 flange nuts on one side so they could fit in the slots on the rear of the tank
Then did a relief cut in the front mounting leg and took a heat gun to it and bent it down to the mounting hole will be able to bolt to the inner fender

I set the factory air box for the lq4 on the battery tray.
The surge tank goes perfectly beside it and there is a good flat are to drill the holes in the inner fender to bolt the back of the tank to.
Overall it looks great in that spot
Almost like it’s supposed to be there

Since I’m running all AN lines for the fuel, oil, trans
I have AN coolers for the oil and trans fluid
So the issue I ran into was that I could not find a cooler mount that would mount to the coolers I purchased so I had to get my fabrication hat on and make cooler mounts.
I used 2” angle iron and got to work with a grinder and hole saws.
I made 2 but only took pics of the oil cooler mount
I got lazy “hot and tired”
I think they turned out good

I assume that you are going to add something to hold the top of the coolers as well? I just thought that I would ask since you are still in fab mode.

Yes sir
Ran out of flat stock so I will be picking up that and the mounting hardware to mount them this week to make a top for the cooler bracket

Finished up Trans cooler mount
Mounted the vapor canister

Will work on the top portions of the mounts tomorrow and mount the coolers.

I know it boring but I will still share

Made the oil and trans lines got them installed
Also completed the hook up power steering lines
Also relocated the vapor canister to the passenger side
It has to be moved due to the larger 6.2 diesel radiator.

The capillary tube was crushed in the line going to the evaporator.
They make a repair kit for it that you cut the tube pull the capillary out then it has a compression fitting on both side.
You have to then figure out how to get the other line that goes to the condenser shortened.
I used a tubing bender and added a bend to take some of the slack out.

I was trying to figure out a way to mount the factory air filter box and came up with using the battery tray on the passenger side

After looking at them together I had to grind down a couple of areas on the battery tray so the air box will lay flat so I can use the holes in the box to run bolts in to mount to tray.

I was able to use 2 of the air boxes factory mounting holes and really that’s all it needed. Once bolted to the tray it’s not going any where.

Got all that done and mounted up.

It has plenty of clearance for the hood and looks like it’s supposed to be there.

Now all I have to do is shine it up.

Been a little bit since I checked in
Mainly been doing wiring so that really boring and I’m pretty sure you guys do not want to see pics of wires.
I should be wrapped up on the wiring this week

Made some progress on the fan shroud today
It’s still not fitting 100% so will have to do some modifications to make it fit but it’s super close
I should have it done this week and mounted.

Little update

Had to modify the shroud quite a bit to get it to mount up better.

All good though once all cleaned up and painted everything installed and looks much better than what I thought it was going to turn out

Just need to speed nuts for the mounts on the top corners and it will be all done

It been a bunch of small things that I have been working on so I have no posted in a while but the list is growing smaller day by day

Made a DIY oil priming system for the LS

Materials:
Scott’s multi-use sprayer
M18-1.5 to AN6 adapter
AN6 to AN4 adapter
AN4 to Barb fitting
2 hose clamps

Well I tried to get it started last weekend but it just did not work out.
Put coolant in and that seems ok no leaks so far
Start pumping the oil in with the priming system I made and found a broken fitting at the oil cooler line.
I was able to get that repaired and pumped 6 quarts in the engine.
No other oil leaks at this time
Filled the power steering pump reservoir and it leaks like a bucket with a hole in it.
Looks like it’s leaking between the reservoir and the pump.
Ohhhhhhh Joy!!!
Now I get to disassemble that whole section of the engine.
That what I get for buying a reman pump.

I did get quite a few other things done
It’s the small stuff that kills you and time.
