I am well acquainted with the timing tab!
It will only fit in one location......As you face the cover it goes in about the 2 O'clock position. I do not think you can get it to fit anywhere else.
FYI - Make sure you have a harmonic balancer installer! Very important.
Timing light - I am almost sure you have to use an inductive timing light. Craftsman sell a great one. Mine has been used and abused (dropped several times).
