one piece window kit

I've always loved the way that kit looks. Seen it done in a magazine years ago. Dont know why we dont see more of them

Probably because of the price...I like the look too, but seems like a lot to pay for what it involves.

the price is pretty steep, but pennys compared to the other things we do to our toys:rolleyes:

other than the occasional whistling, i love my vent windows. I dont know why people want to go away from them :dunno:

cleaner look.... a VERY pricey cleaner look... a 2wd street truck forum would be the place to ask i'd guess... can't say i remember anyone in here ever using it..

I think the wing window would help block the air from blowing in your face while driving. I don't have that problem on my 74 truck with the wing window there, and on my 91 s-10 (no wing), I hate rolling down the window because the air just blows in your face, same with my Tundra.

Yeah it really is only a looks thing. but it looks GOOD. with the top off and the window all the way down its just fine :D

i think alot of guys do it on the 67-72chevytrucks.com site, lots of 2wds there. Guess i cant talk because i have a 5:1-2wd:4wd ratio lol.

I am most likely going to go with the kit for a couple reasons.

1. I hate wing windows. They are ugly, make noise, and can leak. Obviously the manufacturers have taken notice since nothing comes with wings, and haven't for 15+ years. They finally figured out a wing is an inferior design vs. 1 piece glass.

2. I really prefer the look of the lack of a wing window

3. THe cost of the kit is not a huge deal to me. My 25 year old glass has a couple of scratches, so it needs to be replaced anyway. All new felts, scrapers, and the wing window gasket, and I'm into it them for $250, more if I want to go ahead and just replace the whole wing window assembly.

4. Another factor is the window tint. It's hard to get a good window tint job on those little wings, on both my K5 and K30, I can see film borders on the wings because it's hard to get a perfect cut for them. It would also be cheaper to take my 1 piece glass to a tint guy than it would be to have the wing/window tinted.

I'm basically looking at nearly a $500 split between restoring my wings/glass vs. the 1 piece window kit, I am going to do it.:thumb:

big reason for no more wing windows and floor vents was factory a/c installed on almost all vehicles now a days.

i prefer wing windows IF you dont have a/c installed. but if you have a/c then yep thay look killer like this.

If you remove the wing and take all the hardware off the glass, you can lay it on a table to do the tint and run a razor all the way around it right at the edge. Then put it all together. You'll hardly see anything, the glass will look internally tinted. Plus you can rebuild it while your at it with the new seals and all.

the only thing that would make this kit killer would be tinted glass like the factory use to do.

i hate the plastic look of aftermarket tint.

You are right, that is the best way to do it. But, good tint or not, there is still a wing there.

On the 67-72 chevy truck forums (which is loaded with 73-87 trucks and stuff? go figure) They complain that they are a pain in the ass to put in and they don't work well. Plus the glass has some fitment issues. I looked into this several years ago and was turned off by a prominent poster on there who said it wasnt worth it. He said he had weak doors after the install and it only added frustration to his build.

Good point about the weakness of the door...since these doors weren't designed for one piece windows, they rely on the support of the vent window channel to keep them together. I noticed this when I removed mine to rebuild it...

I can say from a upholstery standpoint that when we would get a square in the shop that had this done that the door panels never fit well especially at the top of the scraper. The kit is very universal and in my opinion a solution to which there was never a problem. Replacing the wing window rubber and run channel was all we ever needed to quite whistling windows. Not to mention a good door adjustment. Here is an AWESOME tool to adjust our doors. http://www.eastwood.com/e-z-store-door-alignment-tool.html
