One ton trail trailer build

Yeah but there's no reason you couldn't cut one out with a tourch or somthing and just silicone it in place cause it ain't going anywhere.

Makes sense David,

and Eric, this will probably do it for me then.....mowing is winding down, and I don't have any leaves to speak of, so I will focus on more shop time.

The best part about this swap is it's dam near free. The 14 bolt was delivered to my house for 25.00:D Of course that dosen't happen everyday but:waytogo: I did buy new U bolts at car quest for around twelve dollars each. I pulled the ring and pinion and planned to sell them but my buddy with a buggy wants to try running 4.10s in the rear and 3.73s in the front so I'm gonna give him the gears but I feel I could get my $$ back selling them or at least real close.
For practicality reason and for my needs it's a great swap.
Also one could cut the pumkin out all togeather and just sleeve another section in there to achieve the distance required but that size dom might be spendy.

and the 14BFF is just cool looking.

Leave it intact and use output shaft to drive a couple of alternators to charge the battery's for use on the trailer. :waytogo: that way you have a spare ring & pinion, Alternator, and of coarse spare axles and fully charged battery's. Actually this is not a new idea, I have some serious Baja buddys and they do this already. Works well for them and all their stuff is Toyota. There has been a few times where the parts were stripped from the trailers and the trailers ditched until the return trip home.

Well, I do have a carrier that is the same as what the IronMaiden has in it, but don't have a set of like gears though. Just some spare shafts I guess. And it would need a rebuild kit too.
A brilliant idea of auxilliary power though.

Sorry just riffled through your post and missed the specifics. Just thought it was worth a thought. Im going to be building an off road expo trailer also. Mine will be a bit different in that I want it big enough to haul 2 dual Sport KTM's. This is my doodle...

Zim do you have a spare 14 with a 4.10 by any chance??? If so maybe we can make a deal for this weekend... I need to ditch the 14sf sooner than later

Jess, that C&C chassis is the only axle I got in 14BFF stuff. I think I have a spare carrier that is 4.56 but that is it.

Cool drawings....I like the doors from the outside for access too.
Nice setup.

I dont see what it could hurt not having the carrier in, theyre 1 9/16" (I think) solid steel.

yeah but they're like 34" long and only being supported by the flange on the outside of the hub don't seem like they would like hi-speed to well...just sayin'

Not to take away from your idea but you should look at these-

The m101 specifically.

You can find them here cheap-

My buddy just picked one up for $400 in mint condition that he's turning into an expidition/camping type trailer. 8 lug, surge brakes work perfect and the thing tows great with a pintle hitch.
I have a M105 that i'm going to do the same thing to but will be swapping out the axle for 8 lug/electric brakes (has air over hydro brakes) and litening it up everywhere I can (it's about 2500lbs dry). Its just a thought for you but gives you a great platform right out of the gate. Plus the camo paint looks killer...
If you really want to use your axle you could put it under one but the brakes and price make it a no brainer to me.

I guess I could always mount the 14BFF cover to it anyway...

Well I've used this trailer a bunch and like it so much that I bought another one but this time it's an A3 with what appears to be 12 bolt H1s. Got it from govliq. For 387.00 or 460.00 out the door. I plan on turning the A3 into more of a hunting trailer to pull with my K5 when it's done. I will leave the axle on this one stock if all is well with it.

David, do those have a solid I beam axle or what stock?
thats a pretty good start right there.

nice

and the ring in the front is a must for articulation purposes

yep, a must.

I was thinking when I was at the dunes over the 4th, I need to make a concession trailer, because nobody sells anything out there. What a write off, but then you'd have to deal with the state for licensing/permits/whatever they could soak ya for.
