Ok well I just installed my new tranny from Bowtie Overdrives:D on my 86 K-5 :k5: w/ a 350

Will I be safe to test drive my truck with open headers:confused: (edelbrock TES headers) and to drive my truck to the muffler shop to get my new exhaust.:D

I just don't want to damage anything,:doah: but aren't those cutout things for the exhaust just like running open headers???:dunno: and people drive around with those

your fine! Just drive it and enjoy the deafening roar of an uncorked v-8! Make sure all the cars next to you get to enjoy it to by driving through the busiest streets!!! Drove mine through downtown colorado springs when I first put headers on!

you should be fine i had a colloctor come off my header on the highway and had to drive about an hour with one open header, it was loud around 3500 RPM but my engine is fine

Ahh yes, I remember running mine down to the muffler shop like that after building my 383. What a blast (literally)! Now, whenever I disconnect my exhaust for some reason, I have to start 'er up to hear that sound again just for a moment. It's secksy!

If you're running TBI though (you're prolly not on tht '86), you might notice a check engine light due to the oxygen sensor getting mixed messages, being right next to clean air. My engine light came on within 4 miles. After the exhaust was hooked up, the light went away.

Anyway, try to post a .wav! :D

had the same thing happen to me in blazer, exept i had to drive 2.5 hours, they people i drove passed looked kinda mad

It's fun. You pull up to the exhaust shop and ask for their help finding the exhaust leak on your truck. When they're next to the vehicle, fire her up!

You can get a ticket, of course, but at least you can honestly say that you're on your way to get it fixed.

Whenever I've done it, I usually stop by my exhaust guys place and pick up an appointment card the day before... Added insurance against a ticket...

nothing like firebreathing open headers!

Thats a good idea, I got pulled over the day before I was going to the exhaust shop/. Luckily the cop believed me and let me go, I think he just wanted to take a look at my truck.

Blue85, now thats funny! I would love to see the look on their face if you pulled up and told them that. Just say, "I was driving down the street and suddenly my truck got waayyy louder, can you help figure out how to quite this thing down?" :haha:

BTDT, 20minute drive to muff. shop. Its not bad at all on the freeway, its the deadstop that sucked, but Im running a 305cid.

Awesome, thanks for all the quick replies, now I can't wait to drive her around like that

Back when I had the 521 caddy under the hood I ran it with 3 inch straight pipes all the way back to the back, no mufflers. It was awsome watching the lights come on down the street at 3 am when I fired her up to go to work!:haha: :haha: :doah:
