ORD makes the doubler with the easiest to use parts they can.

it that was true, it would be made with a 203/203 combo because there are millions in junkyards, /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Chain driven cases are not as strong as gear driven cases thats obviuos, but they are still strong enough for the average built and even some more modified ( in my case) Daily drivers. The aluminum t cases shouldn't be any where near the rocks! which is when I hear people cracking them open. They are decently strong inside so if mud or basically anything besides rocks is your thing in a rig that isn;t running 44"s and big big horsepower they should work without much problem. To my knowledge the 203 is chain driven and ORD makes a 203/205 doubler. Internally the 203 isn't any stronger than a 208 or 241. As for the 700 for the millionth time (wrath) is right people leave them in OD when wheeling which burns up the 4th clutch pack; and the low first and OD are huge benifets over the 350/400/465. As far as the stories on the 700's. It seems to me that more 70's blazers are heavily modified than the 80's and early 90's blazers which means more stock 700's with lots of miles on them. I also think the majority of the CK5 members have 80's-later blazers which almost all came equipped with 700's.

Just one quick point relative to the ORD doubler and 203...

Only the gear driven side is actually used for the conversion....all the chain stuff is removed and discarded.

16.5" wheels rock. I regularly take mine down to 7-10psi in the sand and on hard pack desert and havent lost a bead yet. Would 16" really be that much better? a whopping 1/4" off the radius of the opening? even 3/4" off the radius is miniscule.

You are far too hard-headed, son. because you had a bad experience with a 700, you claim they are all junk. I just paid 2 grand for my 700, it better not be junk.

Every sm465 ive driven has been a real POS. from popping out of gear and having syncros about as effective as NOT having syncros, the 3' long shifter handle which takes about 30 seconds to shift between gears because of the long throw, etc etc. I swapped a 465 OUT of my truck. In with the th350, and now in with the 700r4. I will never look back. Offroading in the hills with a 465? hahahah . Unthinkable in my opinion. You wont see me be so pompous as to try and convince everyone that they're the absolute worst POS to grace the auto industry.

Overdrive is pointless? mmkay. I dont even have to touch that one. Kids these days /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

tim, please -- no reply necessary! thanks.

off the top of my head,i can remember owning about 10 700r4's.the only one that ever gave me grief was purchased out of the newspaper, rebuilt by some guy who did it in his spare time to make extra money(shame on me).two of them went well over 200,000 without any trouble, the others i didnt have that long.its not the best thing since sliced bread, but it is a solid, reliable transmission.i just wonder, how many transmissions never see a fresh filter and fluid, and if you bought it 2nd hand, how was it treated in the past?how many of you are running 3.08 gears and 35's,and think that has no effect on the transmission.heat is the #1 killer of any automatic, crazy final drive ratios and towing in overdrive produce alot of heat.save up for the gears before you slap on the tires.to each his own,but i wouldnt trade my 700/241 for a 400/205.

Yeah, I'm a kid Mike. Why don't you quit your deadend job and join the Army and try that on for 5 minutes. I'll be damned if I'm going to serve my country and someone call me a [I love Jeeps] kid. I've done more in my 20 years than you'll ever do, so just leave those comments to yourself. I think I've more than earned my adulthood. Hell, I walk with a limp every day to prove it, 20 years old and I probably have Rhumatoid (sp) Arthritis (so my doctor says after paying him $3k). I sell auto parts all day long to people much older than you, and I've never had one person talk some stupid [I love Jeeps] like that before. That's a totally un-called for comment. I have stated my opinion and shared my experience with the board. If they don't agree, that's fine with me, no sweat off my sack. That's what this place is about, sharing opinions and experience. I have asked for others help in the past, and I have given some my help here as well.

If you spent 2 grand on a 700R4, you too will be disappointed soon enough. Your truck is not a hardcore four wheeling truck and never will be anyway so it might not matter for you.

If you've ever even mounted a 16.5" tire yourself you'd change your mind. They don't even pop when you air them up. You just kind of hear air escaping, see the tire move on the rim, and it starts taking on air. That to me is not effective bead retention, and I have personally watched two of my buddies, one with 38.5x16x16.5 TSLs and the other with 39.5x18x16.5 Boggers throw their tires off the rim in deep mud.

Like I said, they're YOUR trucks. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. I personally wouldn't care what you spend your money on. They're your dollars.

As to the 700R4 topic, I'm DONE with that one as far as voicing my opinion. I have more real world experience than just my own truck. After my friend's 700s went out one after another, mine even gave me a hint of acting up and it was swapped out. I can think of no less than four trucks that I've swapped 700R4s out of in the last couple years, one of them is a '91 K1500 too, (had a 305 its whole life too so I doubt too much input torque tore that one up) so I don't even give them a chance anymore. After what the guy that built my TH 400 said and the Raptor stories, I'm convinced. There's simply no way to make them strong enough for a truck. I'm not ruling the idea out completely, but I've yet to hear on success story. I suppose I'll give them a chance again if I do. All I seem to see is stories about a lot of dollars spent and a ton of money spent to replace it afterwards.

Whatever. I'll take my SM 465 popping out of 3rd gear anyday. I might consider putting the 400/205 setup in a future truck. No matter what happens though, even if it can be built sufficiently, I'll never waste my money on a 700R4. I pay $375 to have a TH 400 rebuilt, you pay $2000 for a 700R4. At the end of the day, I have a stronger tranny and an extra $1625 left over for gas (you better save a lot of gas with that overdrive to break even with me). Considering I can buy over 5 TH 400s for the price of one 700R4 and have piece of mind, I'll stick that way. If you want to have a 700, GO FOR IT! I won't stop you.

If you knew everything about T-cases you should have never started this thread in the first place. If you think that aluminum cases are strong enough for your uses, go for it and use them, you've really got nothing to lose. I agree with you partially on that issue though. The 208/241 typically fail from low fluid level, not too much input torque.

And as for the NP 208 or 241 being as strong as the 203, I cry bullshit. The chain is much larger in a 203.

I have stated my opinion.

actually you present it as the gospel and anyone who disagrees with you is totally wrong, as evidenced by your telling everyone who has a 700 that has bothered to reply that their's is going to go bad

that is a pretty broad statement especially since there are several of us who have been in the military and done all sorts of stuff while there and out of the military

Dude, you really need to grow up. You obviously haven't learned to much in the Army. All you are doing here is whining like a little girl. I too am in the military and only a couple years older than you. I would never use the military as an excuse to say i am a big boy now. You have just showed us in your post that you are not an adult, but a whing little [I love jeeps]. Also, you certainly haven't learned any respect in the Army yet have you, since you think whatever job he does is worthless. You also haven't gotten any smarter in the Army either since you say you payed a doctor 3K for doctor bills. The Army should pay that for you! Hopefully you opted for the Montgomery G.I. Bill, you should go back to school and learn some people skills. Go out and learn some more life lessons and come back and maybe some day everyone here will take a poll to see if your an adult yet. Sorry if I am being a little mean, but I take the military very seriously. I work for Special Operations Command, which I think would be pretty important, but I still don't go around using the military as an excuse to say I'm better than anyone else. Grow Up /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

If he spent 2k than that tranny has the best possible parts in it, that will make that 700 survive with ease. How dare you tell him that he will be dissapointed soon enough!!! You don't know what his future holds for him, not to mention that you obviuosly don't know anything about rebuilding an automatic! SO you had problems with your 700, it's an 84'. You can't relize that the 87' and later boxes are much better? As for you not hearing any success stories, How many people just on this thread alone have to tell you that their well built 700 HAS LASTED FOR YEARS OF HARDCORE ABUSE and probably will continue for years to come! Who gives you the right to consider what is hardcore or not, your truck is obviuosly not hardcore and frankly not a very efficiant daily driver either. Just because someone doesn't rock crawl all the time doesn't mean their not harcore. I don't do rocks because I like my nice shiney welds, chrome diff covers, shocks, and would never hack up my fenders but I pull [I love Jeeps] across asphalt in 4low at 5,000rpm's with my boggers smoking. Now if that isn't hardcore component stress than I don't know what is. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

The post was directed at Mike Reeh, who has harassed me on this board and others for a number of years. Do a search if you don't believe me. I think I've come a long way since then and I think I've more than earned my place here. If you don't agree with me, that's just fine.

I'm not whining. And it's a long story, but the Army won't pay for my knee. In fact, even with my knee the way it is, it's very likely that I will have to go to Iraq. So far three different doctors (including one specialist) can't tell what's wrong with it. I'm going to another specialist here shortly and getting four different blood tests and hopefully that will solve something. Luckily my dad's health insurance still covers me (I suppose my work offers it too, but I don't carry it because my dad's still covers me until i'm 23). It has helped me but the doctor bills are still insane. I swear, I hate doctors, what a bunch of idiots. $3,000 and he can't tell me my a knee swells, locks up, and pops all the time? I wish I could charge someone $3k for an engine, build it, and then tell them I don't know why it backfires all the time.

I'm not *using* the military to prove I'm an adult. I'm 20 years old now, I've done more than my share of work with cars, I'm out of school, and I work a 40 hour (or lots of times, more than that) week just like Mike does. I think it's nonsense that he talks down to me like a kid, and he should just keep it to himself. As to the 700R4, I've beat the dead horse to death about three times already. Just do a search if you think I'm talking nonsense.

If you guys are obviously not REAL pizza experts. Pizza should be HOT, which is why it never lasts. Who the hell wants to eat a COOL pizza.....there's a reason why it lasts longer that way, it sucks!

Now BEER on the other hand, IS supposed to be cold. I find it to be a VERY popular choice, even though the housing is made of aluminum..... /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Glass?......GLASS!? Dude, you won't last a minute of the rocks with a glass housing!!! Aluminum is a much better material for strength.....

If they made beer in a cast iron housing, THAT'S what I'd be buying.

.....and don't tell me about the "updates" that can make a glass beer just as strong as an aluminum one.... or how the later model glass is a much more durable design. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
