Opinions on running a 35\" tire on 10\" wide rim...

I am want to buy a new set of 16" X 10" rims for a set of 315/75/16 tires, but all the manufactures of 315/75/16 (35/12.5/16) tires recommend 8.5" wide rims for this size tire. I think 35" tires look funny on 8.5" wide rims...like balloons bulging out at the sidewalls. What do you people think about running 35" tires on 10" wide rims?

If you don't ever have any intention of airing down it'll be fine.

This truck will only be used for camping, hauling dirt bikes, and towing. The only wheeling this truck will see is just enough to get out to the campsite.

Can't you get tires that are 14.50 wide ?? They work very well on 10" wide wheels.

So do 12.50s and they look better.

[/ QUOTE ] Wider always looks better. And you can still air down if needed on a 10" wide rim with a 14.50 wide tire. But then again, I use 15's instead of 16's.

The load range on 15" tires sucks, it would be completely stupid to put 15" tires on a 1 ton that you were going to tow with.

[/ QUOTE ] Okay, but I'd still use a 15" steel rim and do some caliper gringing because of lower tire prices.

Re: Opinions on running a 35\" tire on 10\" wide rim...

i have 35x12.5r15 on 15 x 10 rims, and i have had no problem at all. ive aired down to 5 psi and the bead still held, even did some donuts and still didn't loose a bead.

my 265/75r16 BFG have a load rating of 2778, my 265/75r16 Goodyears are 2601, and my 35x12.5r15 dunlop are 2555. not that much difference, they are all load range C though, but you can get higher in a 16" tire and i dought it with a 15" tire.

Re: Opinions on running a 35\" tire on 10\" wide rim...

i used to have my street tires (35x12.5x15 procomp MTs) mounted on 15x10 rims. I switched to 15x8. Honestly, I don't think I ever noticed a visual difference. Im sure there was a little, but its nothing to wet your pants over. Go with whatever is cheapest and will fit over your brakes.

I have wheeled 35-12.5s on 10" rims for years never had an issue.

I think that Ground Hawgs are the best tire for.... oops, wrong post! /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

I don't think that you will notice a lot of difference in how the tires will look on either size wheel. I would run the 10 inch wide wheel though so that it will bring the tires out to the edge of the fenders instead of keeping them tucked under.

I ran 35's on 15x10 Alcoas on my Bronco aired down all the time and also had no problem. I plan on 16x10's with 315/75r16's for the Blazer shortly.

Re: Opinions on running a 35\" tire on 10\" wide rim...

I've run both 11.50's & 12.50's on a 10" wide rim for years without any problem. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: Opinions on running a 35\" tire on 10\" wide rim...

This is an opinion post and I much prefer a tire with a little sidewall bulge. I like a 12.5" wide tire on a 8 1/2" wide wheel. I think it looks good. I personally run a 19.5" wide tire on a 12" wide wheel.
