So let's hear your opinions about this K5 for sale. A friend of mine really wants a mall cruiser K5. He is not mechanically inclined at all and wouldn't even change the oil himself, though I would probably do most of the work that is required. Plans would be taking the family on ice cream trips and maybe driving it to work every once in awhile (not a long drive). Zero off-road except maybe going hunting and pulling off the side of the road in a field. He wants something that can be driven as is and in no way wants a project. I've been steering him towards '87 or newer for the fuel injected engines and OD trans (I've owned a '90 for a LONG time). This one has a 5.3/4L60E swapped in, which would be a very nice combo assuming it's done halfway right.

I think the prices are crazy on these things, but after looking at ones for over a year this seems to be the going rate. Looked at an '87 locally that had supposedly been restored to stock they were asking $15k for but it was kinda' ratty.......crappy paint (overspray and bad tape lines), rust starting on the rockers and other places, and everything underneath had a layer of oil on it.

How picky is he? A few things that would bug me if I were spending that much:

-Mismatched seats
-Horribly cut dash for the radio
-Unpainted inner tailgate
-Looks like a leaking rear brake line?

It's a lot of money and it is a nice truck that someone put a lot of time into, but honestly I think its 10-15K high at least.

K5's are not "cheap" anymore even crappy squares. First gens will be expensive. Squarebody sellers want a decent chunk of money, even if it doesn't runz

there is nice 1990 suburban for sale out here in AZ I've been lurking at.

I agree with all above. There is no way in hell that red K5 is worth $35k.

More fish in the sea.

The interior was the biggest flag for me and it's obvious somebody didn't put much time into it. The chassis is pristine either.....a couple of hours with some spray cans of black paint would make a world of difference for most people.

I agree with the comment about being $10k or so high.

I wouldn't buy anything from one of those online dealers. There are several that advertise on ebay all the time. Remember their profit margin is way more than an individual seller. These guys buy up decent Blazers, put a steam cleaning on them and fix a couple of things, and add $10k on the price. Buy from a person. These guys at Streetside can't tell you much about the truck, either.

Consider looking here in CA and shipping it back. Several members around that might have a second to look at one. If it’s in the San Bernardino area I could look, but that’s all the help I can offer. I don’t know the first thing about shipping or paying securely.

I completely agree. The guy I talked to seemed nice and honest as possible.....he didn't make any claims about the truck being 100% mint and pointed out any obvious issues, but also didn't know a lot of details either. It was one of those "some guy got it on trade and then gave it to us to sell". Told my friend I would really need to see it in person but he doesn't want to make the trip. This one is only about 5 hours away so not that bad.

Do we start sharing links to daily drivers??
If you can look past the vinyl wrap, this one here in Austin isn’t bad. (If the link doesn’t work, sorry. Not sure how to share a Facebook ad)

There has got to be nicer ones for half the price out there. If not, I'm sure there's a bunch of us that regret letting go of ones we used to have.

For his budget, he was willing to drop $50k on a new Bronco until the whole Covid/computer chip thing put an indefinite delay on getting it. Prior to the new Bronco being introduced he had been looking for a K5, so quite aware of the price range.

In regards to the comment about finding a nice one for half the price....well, good luck and let me know when you find it. I've been looking at K5's for sale for him for well over a year and have yet to find anything I would consider "nice" and not need work for under $20k. Best deal I found was for an '87 they were asking $15k for, but it was completely stock, had an obviously crappy re-paint with surface rust already showing, and everything was leaking on it. This guy doesn't want any type of project.

And just to say it again, I think the $34k they are asking for the one in my original post is crazy....but I'm also cheap and have the ability to fix a rig up myself. This guy doesn't.

Totally get it. I spent the better part of 2-3years trying to find a rust free, jump in and go one and finally found one and shipped it across the country earlier this year. There are clean ones out there that are “reasonably priced” but you have to move quickly and be comfortable buying without seeing it in person.

If you look on bring a trailer (BaT) in the past several months there have been some very nice ones that have sold in the $18-30k range. The couple that end today are over that range but appear to be low mileage examples. Not saying BaT is going to be the place to buy it (there is a buyer fee on top of the hammer price), but may be able to finder a nicer k5 than on some of those other websites. Just my 2cents. I did buy a truck off BaT 5yrs ago and had a positive experience, and wouldnt hesitate to do it again (i did bid on a couple k5’s that were listed earlier in the year). Good luck

50k??? Daaaaaamn. For that you kind of $ you can get a far better K5 than the one in the link.

why not just buy an ok K5 and use the $$ to restore it how you want?

On Squarebody classified on Instagram they have this at $28,000
And many more.
