Opinions on this K5 for sale

Appreciate the discussion and comments from everybody. I'll address several of the above posts.

- The red K5 in the original post is not going for $50k, but rather that is what he was willing to pay for one of the brand new Ford Bronco.
- I completely agree that a 30 year old K5 isn't the best choice for somebody with no mechanic ability.
- He does not want a Jeep......because everybody and their brother (or soccer mom) around here has a lifted and modified Jeep.
- I've already talked to Becustom in regards to the two he has listed in the classified section. Yes, they both seem like really nice options...and he is asking in the $30k range for them which is the going rate.
- This needs to be basically a turn-key setup....he does not have the ability to work on a project and while I think it would be fun, I simply don't have the time. If you have to pay a shop to do it you are getting into way more money and expect them to have it a year.

Like i mentioned, keep an eye out on BaT. There have been some nice ones well in his price range that were turn key the past couple months. Set an alert and you’ll get an email about every time someone list a blazer and jimmy and watch like a hawk if you/he finds one hes interested. Like i said there is a fee for winning bid and likely shipping (unless near by) so something to consider. Not saying its the best place to buy, but there have been some really nice ones that sold for less than i would have thought (also several that went for more).

tell him to give it a year and everybody is going to have a bronco......

turnkey vehicle now, 6 months later:

- the steering feels loose
- it doesn’t brake all too well
- sqeaks, groans, grinding, thuds, clunks and vibrations.
- gas mileage sucks

just playing devils advocate here and Suggesting things that he may not have thought about.
100% agree and I've talked to him about this. Even a perfect condition square body is not going to ride and drive anywhere close to a new truck. I daily drove a '90 K5 for years, also put a 4" lift and 33's on it for part of that time.

Posted yesterday. ‘84 with holley sniper EFI. Looks like it was in minor accident 10yrs ago, so wont command a premium and looks to be very clean, if you like the color. I’m guessing this will end up in the $18-22k range. Currently bid at $13.5k

I don't understand why somebody would want to buy a 40+ year old vehicle, especially a 4wd one and have little to no interest in working on it. They will most certainly need it and if you won't or will not do, it will be/get pricey. But I guess someone with a 50k budget could probably afford that maintenance.

why not just get a newer 4wd vehicle and be done with it? But if it's the Blazer look you're after, it will either cost up front and down the road, or little upfront and a lot down the road, either way you're going to pay. Saving on the labor is ideal.

He really thinks they are cool........and the same reason anybody gets an old hot rod to cruise around in. Granted, a large percentage of those people do the work themselves but there are quite a few that have no clue how to work on them.

As stated in one of my above posts he had ordered one of the new Ford Bronco 2 door models 8-9 months ago but they are on indefinite delay, so he cancelled the order. He wants something you can take the top off and the only other new option is a Jeep, which everybody has.

If your friend doesn’t have the ability or will to work on a vehicle, a 30 year old truck isn’t something he should be considering.

the new bronco was an option? I’d tell him to start looking at jeeps.

*edit. Not saying the above as a jackass.
I agree.
Anyone not able or willing to work on a vehicle shouldn't buy a 30 year old vehicle.
Buying new and with a warranty is their option.
I am not saying you need to do the work yourself but even a fully restored vehicle will have issues down the road

Valid point. But somebody willing to spend $30k on a square probably has the income to afford paying some shop to fix it when it breaks.

It's certainly not the norm around here but guys do it all the time. I've got customers like that and they are great. Treat them fair and do a good job they bring it back.

Think of early bronco people. They high end broncos get built and maintained by a shop.
I had a couple 80k+ bronco builds back when I was building trucks.

That was my comment at the end, the willingness to have someone work on it.
Some people expect cars to be trouble free and they look for a good condition vehicle and expect it to stay that way.
Just saying...
I know people like that

Same concept as Lamborghini owners.... people want to drive something beautuful but are unwilling or unable to scratch their hands up. There's an entire industry sect just for people like this! Go to any wealthy area and you'll find a cherried out Broncos, Scouts, and Blazers. Rancho Santa Fe California, wealthiest city in the nation for example. The nearest Home Depot or AutoZone is two zip codes away.

I'm not a part of this group, but I work in rich areas and I see this stuff every day.
