opinions please. suspension related

not familiar with shock hoops, but here's the deal on the 3/4 ton gear. you want to get a 14 bolt full float rear axle and either a dana 44 or 10 bolt front axle from a 3/4 ton truck or burb. you'll know it's a full float rear end b/c it has a hub which sticks through the wheel a few inches and has a bunch of bolts around it. to check the gear ratio, pull the cover, count the teeth on the ring gear and then divide that number by the number of teeth on the pinion. the number you get is your ratio. you want at least 4.10 to run 35's - this is a common gear ratio in 3/4 ton, not too hard to find. 4.56 might do you better, particularly if you are going to go to bigger tires. i think this might be slightly more difficult to find. what tranny/tcase do you have?

not sure about the transmission types. i can tell you if you tell me what to look for. what about just getting aftermarket axel shafts. i have never came close to breaking an axel. at least i dont think so. i dont compete with the truck but i do kick the crap out of it.. are these axels a neccessity. and where do i find them.. a junk yard. and then if i spend 6 or 700 on used axels how much is it going to cost me to refurb them so i dont have problems in the future...

thanks for all the help..

well - i don't know all the tranny identifiers off hand, but if you have over drive you've got a 700r4. if you don't, you either have a th350 or th400. i know the th350 has a rectangular tranny pan with one corner "chamferred" off. the 700r4 has a rectangular tranny pan. don't know about the th400. if you're going to run tires bigger than 35, you really should consider heavier duty gear. if you're going to change the gear ratio in your axles, it will save you money to just buy different running gear with the ratio you want. you should be able to pick up some 3/4 ton running gear for $300 or less. you wouldn't necisarily have to put any money or work into them - just make sure the brakes are good. i think you'll find that junkyards charge too much for running gear, so keeping an eye out in the papers, ck5 for sale forum etc will be the best route for you. ;)
