Between the ORD and DIY shackle flip, which one is better? Also ORD now makes a complete suspension kit that is one their website. What are the thoughts on this kit.

Also another question, if you do a shackle flip is it possible to still keep your receiver?

As far as the shackle flip goes, it really depends on what you want to do. ORD's kit keeps the factory UDSM shackle and literally just flips it over. Kert's (DIY4X) on the other hand allows you to use traditional strap type shackles or, better yet, cross tied shackles. It seems most here prefer the flexibility of using a traditional shackle (as do I), but either kit will get the job done and quality will not be a concern as both fabricators are very reputable.

I don't know specifically about ORD's kit, but most likely you'll need to notch a corner of the DIY4X bracket to keep the hitch. I asked this same question and I'm still looking at ways to keep both. Pic below to illustrate the issue (courtesy of Planet4x4).

so with ORD the leaf spring attaches right to the new bracket and with the diy4x there is the bracket, then the shackles and then the leaf springs?

Oh, and I have seen great results from the DIY one. Not too familiar with the ORD one. Either way make sure your gas tank is empty :)

I have the ORD kit on my K5, the fit and finish was great. I had to notch the bracket a little bit for the hitch. Wasn't that big of a deal.

did you have to drop your tank and what size shackle did you use?
how much lift did you actually get from it?

I have the ORD flip and you see that mounting tab for the hitch? I cut the mount off and rewelded it a few inches back, then drilled a new hole into the frame. That allowed me to run the flip and the hitch as well. Also its probably best to drop the tank when you install this but I was able to do mine without dropping the tank. I used a long flexible magnet to fish the bolts through from the backside so the nuts were facing out. The DIY flip would be easier to install without dropping the tank since the nuts are welded to a metal strip

I had my tank completly out (went from 25 to 31), plus I was using the torch to cut out the old rivets and didn't feel comfortable with just lowering it.

I can't tell you how much lift they gave me...since I also installed lift springs and a zero rate.

Good call. I was considering moving the hitch mount back a little bit and drilling a new hole, but not quite sure how to accomplish it. That sounds like a plan.

I've had good luck using ORD parts for the suspension on my truck.

I have the diy first gen brackets and really like them. I prefer the look of the bracket and the shackle design.:D

I went with DIY4X and the cross-tied shackles. I dropped the tank - it was easier than fishing the straps out of the frame every time I dropped them. :doah: I also ditched my hitch, but I may rework it to fit with a some holes that are a couple inches further forward on the frame.

Incomplete write up here.

a third option, sky's offroad design. i went with these because they worked with my ord 6" shackle that i already had and i liked the 2nd mounting option of the shackle. going to be installed in the burb this weekend. if only i hadn't just filled my tank a couple days ago:doah:

I have the DIY4X flip on my K5 and the ORD on my 96' Z-71. They are both top quality. But i like the DIY design better and the ability to use strap shackles.
