One advantage of the strap style shackles that I haven't seen mentioned is the ability to change shackle length much more easily. There are a limited number of different length afteramarket shackles in the stock design, but it is easy to fab up a set of strap style shackles in any length. I started with 4.5" rear shackles and am going to 6" now.
