What are you alls thought on this?

Go to Yahoo, do a search for Bowtie Overdrive (we all know who they are).

You will notice several sites show up that are Monster Transmissions' (most have heard of them)

Knowing how search engines and website work I started looking for reasons that Monster Transmission would show up in a search for Bowtie. I didn't search for transmission or anything. I was specific, "Bowtie Overdrive".

If you do a search for Monster Transmission you don't get Bowtie returns.

Well if you look at Monster's webpages carefully they have links back to themself that are labeled "Bowtie Overdrive 700r4". Most notibly on this page; http://www.thmonster.com/index.htm. Very bottom of the page on the right just above the copyright material. Looks like little lines. Also if you high-lite the entire page there are the same links embedded with the font being the same color as the background.

Shady advertising or ingenius? Or do I just have too much time on my hands?

Not really shady, because all they are doing is getting their name in front of you. They are not trying to deceive you into buying something.
Look at the cereal isle at the grocery store, the generics emulate the packaging of the name brands all the time.
In this case, unless they are not really claiming to be affiliated with Bowtie OD's, they just realized that they could get their name in front of someone who was looking for the exact product that they sell.
I say its ingenious, and capitalism at its best!

there are a lot of ways to "hack" google...some free like they did, and some not so free. You can also buy keywords so that when people search for chevy your ad comes up in the sponsored links section etc...

i don't think it's shady, although it can be annoying sometimes
