Grew up around a early 70's jimmy basically our farm truck with the 4 speed and not much interior that was fun to play in the fields with as a boy. then the neighbor lady got a 89-91 blazer and put some 33's and chrome rims on it well i was in love lol. My 89 was my first vehicle and bought it for most of the reasons listed here, great chevy heat, interior room, not to common around here, fuel injected, top comes off, great 4x4 even stock, and well its bad ass!
I grew up in the middle east where FORD was banned so we didn't have the big bronco, and the DODGE ramcharger was rare there, BLAZERS were plentyfull especially becuase the military used them then they were sold to the public.
My brother got the first one a 73 then I got a 74.
We ended up restoring mine using the best parts from the 2.
Too bad after we left, my dad sold it for $750 saying no one wanted to pay more for a gas guzzler.
I cam to the states and the first thing I did was buying a Blazer a 76 this time.

You can have someone go buy it for you, have him low ball her and make her feel she is screwing you over by selling it cheap to some other guy.

I grew up in a '76 K5 Blazer. Mom and dad's first new vehicle. Unfortunately they sold it in '93 after getting our '92 Blazer K1500...which was okay but not the same.
My first vehicle was a '86 K5 Blazer that was a rusty POS. Learned some lessons but I did like it.
Next I bought the aforementioned '92 Blazer K1500 and it was sorta like 3/4 of a K5...just with crappy IFS.
I meandered for a while with other vehicles but what got me was...
...Suzukis and divorce. I had a series of 2 door Geo Trackers that I loved for their small size, 4x4 ability, versatility if not cargo hauling ability, and general usefulness.
Then my wife became my ex. I needed something to haul around my two dogs, one being a 80lb Golden Retriever. I was leaving the rust belt so I figured what was better than a K5? Relatively cheap, solid build and quality, the Lego blocks of the truck world, and I knew a fair bit about them. Will safely haul 5 people and tow a 3/4 ton cargo trailer anywhere you can fit it, will haul me and two sleepy dogs while towing said trailer across 3 states, and in general get me anywhere I'm going.
I might get a beater DD one day soon just to save wear and tear on The Blazer in the winter but it fits my needs very, very well right now.
It's also different and starting to become a true classic.

Yep. If it's truly a large object that needs to be hauled or towed I have Big Ugly for that.I wanted something that wasn't a land yacht, would seat 4 people, could tow with it, and could carry cargo without getting wet and the blazer fit those requirements perfectly.

To be honest, my first choice was a 78 Bronco. My buddy who had a 80's Chevy pickup made the argument that parts were more plentiful for a GM product. In retrospect, he was full of crap because I've found that there are tons of parts for both GM and Ford vehicles. Dodge much less and import trucks are really scarce. Now that my Blazer is done, I am picking up a 78 F150 this weekend to satisfy my 70's Ford cravings.....

My dad had my K5 since before I was born. It was what we took hunting. Plus who in their right mind would say that a fully convertible truck is not better than a regular one? That and the simplicity are what sold me. I was working on this truck long before I had a driver's license. I'm in love with it hahaha

Grew up a Chevy guy. We always had Chevys when I was a kid. My 1st real job was at a Chevy dealer, later became a tech at same dealer. I just have a lot of experience with these trucks. Always loved the square bodies but I have had a couple of 1st gens too. And since everything fits from 73 to 91 I always have an excuse to troll Craigslist for parts.

I saw a 88 or so,when I was 18 or so....I wanted one ever since!
So at 38 I finally got one for 2000K nothing was really wrong besides little bity things. Reason? Top comes off,4-5 people can ride in it,you can sleep in it,its a CHEVY,its beautiful...

i can remember driving around the beach when i was little in a friend of my dads ram charger. thought it was cool. but an ugly nose.
being a born Chevy guy in a ford/dodge household i searched and fell in love with the body style. never knew anything more than it was the right truck for me.
15yrs later i got my very own. never been happier with any other car or truck. hands down most fun to drive.

I grew up around AMCs (and own a restored Spirit), but in college I was looking for a truck (went to college in Colorado, and had no garage, so I didn't want to keep the Spirit there). I was looking for a jeep, but stumbled across my Blazer for a good price at the right time. So I bought it, and then realized just how awesome they are.

I was given a '83 K5 as an early high school graduation gift in 1997 when I was in the 10th grade. I've been a fan of K5's ever since.

Hmmmm...I can't remember the first one I fell in love with. It's been awhile. I've owned six...maybe seven over the years. From a 70 with a 307 and a 3 on the tree, to my current 91 Jimmy. I've had this one since 2002 and I may own it for 20 more years. But, it's not my last. I'll have more and I always keep my eye out for another special one... I WILL own another first gen. I WILL have a pretty driver/mall crawler. But I'll always have at least one for wheeling....
Why a Blazer ????
Well I actually started with a 79 CJ5, I bought it when I was 14 with no motor, no trans and no solid floor boards
, over the next 2 years my father and I rebuilt it adding a Ford 351w , t18 trans and rolling on 38's. I turned 16 in march and by november I had had enough of it, no room inside, constantly breaking parts (mostly my fault) leaky drafty soft top and horrible heat. Winter was coming and I wanted a bigger 4x4, with a v8 and a removable top with more room, so I found a 83 K5 and fell in love. It was a stock 350, auto truck, bone stock and perfect. Big but not too big , easy to work on, lots of parts available and just cool .
That was 8, yes 8 K5's ago, I currently own #'s 7 and 8 and will more then likely hit double digits sooner or later. Although number 8 (my 86 current project) is never going any where, I am finally able to do one the way I have always wanted, so one day this one will get passed onto my son so he can enjoy K5's the way I have for the last 18 years.
So why a K5, because I like them, nuff said !
