Overheating with new Rad and T-stat

So i shot the Thermostat housing while the gauge was in the new "normal" spot and it goes from 198 to 227 back to 198ish while sitting there A/C on. So i figure the T-stat is cycling fine and my gauge is the wrong resistance of something for a 90. Any electrical whizzes out there know what resistor it takes to make a 87 water temp gauge work for a 90 VSS cluster.

Will a sending unit for an 87 not work?Seem besides getting the corect guage it would be the most logical thing to do.

they should be the same either way, i beileve the only difference in the clusters is the electronic speed-o.

You would think right. My guage sits at 200 but I know its lower like 180-190 no biggy. But if it for whatever reason ever goes over 200 Im gona know its running hotter than normal. That guage is a cold hot reading with a vuage guess inbetween so how is it gone be acurate?
