Overland trip: CK5 wheels the UP 2016 (trip report and pictures going up!)

Tail end of July could also work for me, it'll be a bit hotter but not the end of the world. And it'll be farther away from the start of school and old threshers.

Remember, our July high temperatures are in the 80-85* range. I don't think I've seen 90* since I moved up here. And Superior is cooler yet. You'll be just fine, it will feel like a reprieve for you.

I can't commit to anything for sure except dunefest...
anything farther I want to get my CrewCab Cummins conversion done and proven reliable for the long haul, perhaps taking it to Moab in Sept.

Are you guys still interested? Seems like each time I look back at this trip I find more folks in varying states of "maybe."
As much as I want to go, my attendance would be unlikely. With new projects coming into the shop, plus my full time day job, we're focused on BB17.

I will follow along here with interest.

David

I'm very interested in the run this year, but will not be able to commit to anything more than a month or so in advance.

Yes, two things...the truck needs to get to that point first and be reliable towing 11K before taking it much further than Silver Lake, two...cubic $$$$...Moab from my house is no chump change trip.

But I thought the almighty Cummins would handle that excursion at idle in 2nd gear pulling 30k pounds and have a total fuel cost of $46.78 round trip!

Is that not how it works? :dunno:

well I"m not pulling 30K, maybe 18K GCWR at the most when its back together with the new drivetrain in it.
I'm hoping the 6BT/47RE/3.54's will get double what the 454/T400/4.10's got....that was about 5 doing 70-75mph...and use a LOT less oil doing it!

I was thinking the same thing, but there is an oversize one on there as well as a double.

Yeah I think it's just wider still only 6 feet long. I'm about five eight and a half, I think it would be a great option until I figure out which roof-top tent to go with. For Dune Fest 2016 I took the backseat out of the CC, put a piece of plywood and memory foam, it was okay.

OK, I'm late to the party..... Count me in.. let me know when.

I was looking to make a run to the UP this spring to do a shakedown run on my truck, as long as it all works out I'll be ready.

Okie Dokie. We'll be doing weekend trips throughout the peninsula this Spring. Might be a good chance to scout out an official route?

As to when, I'll throw up a poll when we get closer.

@Blue85, this picture from that DirtRoadTrip posting that you shared looks quite familiar. Looks like you even reused the same rock! :eek1: :haha:
