Overland trip: CK5 wheels the UP 2016 (trip report and pictures going up!)

5 years ago, yes. Now, who knows. It's totally plausible to come up with a good itinerary, present it on the UPO website and have it become UPO2017. And if the website is broken or has no action, I can contact most of the regulars.

Alright. I'm gonna put together a 2017 CK5 thread. You're still SortaMaybeBusy in August, yes?

As much as I can hope for is to take a 4-day weekend and tag along on a trip for 2 days, but probably won't be able to commit until last minute.

Whether we go on the fifth or not, if you decide to go durning the summer please give me a heads up.

I maybe doing some solo runs throughout the year and will let you guys know when I get something set up if you'd like to go.

Will do, man. We will probably be out camping every 2-3 weeks once we get past mosquito season. Keweenaw, Hurons, Pictured Rock, etc. Usually pretty short notice, but lemme know if you have dates in mind.

OK no problem, we can pick a different weekend maybe late summer or fall when the bugs aren't so bad.

Yep, I'm officially bumping the early trip to a later date. We've had standing water in my yard most of the days this month, it hasn't ever been dry, and Houghton's been getting more rain yet. The Cliff Mine campsite is under 4-6" of snow, and the forecasted nighttime temps are in the low 30s.

We'll try again after baby arrives.

Luke, I know you warned about the dangers of planning a spring-time camping trip, but I don't regret giving it a try. At very least I have an itinerary lined up for a later trip.

Me neither, I'm glad we tried. I still like to go before the August trip. I will let you know in advance when I'm heading North.

One thing I forgot was that @shady is heading up to da Western U.P. in mid June and was interested in meeting up somewhere neat. Didn't sound like a trail ride, but it still could be fun.

Could be a mild trail ride.... Depends on the trail :). I'll have the Silverado..... But I gotta think about the warranty police lol

How is this coming along?
So I made it....but without a front driveshaft, front bumper or flatbed. But I was able to make it through the mud pit in 2wd with no weight on the back. So over all I'm pretty pleased with how it's working so far. Now to finish putting parts on and start addressing the little bugs.

Luke, we've dropped down to 2 rigs that are able to make the trip this year. Would you be able to reach out to your UPO friends to try to drum up some more rigs? We're willing to slide the trip a week in either direction if it frees up anyone's schedule. Otherwise it's going to turn into a rather ad hoc sightseeing tour.

@76zimmer, was it a scheduling conflict that kept you from joining us? Or was it general busyness? I don't remember anymore.

I've lost track of the details. It starts 17-Aug and hits Drummond?

My misfortune is mostly work, I've taken most of July off, and my co-worker is taking most of August off, so I need to cover his time off.
