PA inspections

depending on the county, you will have to have vehicles fully inspected for safety and emissions testing.all smog eqipment must be there and in working order.this is mostly a visual inspection.no check engine lights.tires within 2/32 of tred same with brake pads and shoes.they usually pull f/l and r/r tires to inspect the brakes.cost is around 75 dollars for both inspection and emissions sticker.if you are in a county that doesnt have smog emissions test then around 50 bucks for the safty inspection sticker.they have been cracking down on the places that do lick and stick inspections,so they are hard to find anymore.most places will do a 15 dollar preinspection to let you know what the vehicle needs to pass also.at least my guy i go to does if i get a new car.

i forgot, welcome to the keystone state.i think you have a year to change over both your license and tags iirc.or at least till your current tags run out.:wink1:

PA, inspections.

heres some......

...... lights (work, no broken lenses)

...... windows ( must go up and down)

...... wipers work ( cant streak)

...... mirrors (none broken)

...... glass (must have no cracks in drivers view)

...... brakes (atleast 2/32nds)

...... tires ( 2/32nds)

...... bumper heigth (30 inches)
(no tires sticking out at all)

...... cats (visual in some counties)

...... exhaust (must exit either in stock location
or further back)

...... no holes ( rust holes in body or passenger
compartment)

...... emissions ( air pump , cats etc) (also do the gas
cap test)(not in every county)( no check engine lites on)

...... shocks ( no visible leaks)

...... struts (the three bounce test)

...... e-brakes (must be opperative)

...... fender flares ( none larger than 3 inches)

...... Thats a few of the normal ones, not every station does all that tho, you might get
lucky and get a lick and stick

...... usually its just lights, tires, brakes, mirrors

...... average inspection price is between 19.95 and 29.99, emissions go from 30. - 60.

...... most stations pull 2 opposite tires to check brakes and then go from there

..... neither of my trucks go by any of these standards, .....lol

from remembering someone with a lifted truck ...

36's max.... that is all I remember.... I know rear mudflaps.... dont think fronts...

PA I believe is like NJ.. you have a different inspection to go through...

in NJ you go through the motor vehicle high rise inspection station.... sucks...

i think tire size is ok , they have to be dot approved. Mud flaps have to be like 6 degrees from the bottom of the tire, thats almost to the ground...

screw state inspection stations in jersey.. those guys suck and have a powertrip... i've gone to gas stations and paid the $75 the last 15 yrs or so...

iirc, pennsy has 2 stickers, 1 emmisions, 1 general..

true.... I feel ya man...
there used to be a guy that was cool there.. but they moved him and now dweebs are there...

fyi you may have gotten lucky as your area doesnt know about it but in our area the cops are all up to date on the high rise inspection....

what truck do you get inspected from a gas station? you are good up to 38's in NJ and most cops know that.. it is the trucks with 44's that get picked on....

also NJ has 2 stickers too.... for high rise.. that is how our cops know to pull you over.... then you need your paperwork.... has tire size, lift size, bumper heights......

you can see both stickers here...

and for those that have good eye site...

oh yeah, thats right, jersey has the lift sticker... this'll be the first time my rig has to go for the stability.. afaik, the only places to do the tilt test are in asbury, and down in like cape may.. i hear the guys in cape may are much cooler...

i know about the 38 law, thats why i'm running em.. i expect them to make me put rear mudflaps on, hopefully not fronts....

yes need front mudflaps.. I failed for that..
also I failed for too many accessory lights.. only allowed 2...

ford and dodge are allowed 36" to bottom of door when open on flat ground and that is on the highest gvrw...

chevies are only allowed 33" as they say the chevy frame is higher than a ford....

you can call them and tell them what you have and they are willing to work with ya and tell you what you can do and how to pass...

slapperbar, welcome. i'm about 20 minutes from monroeville, and i work near gibsonia .

there is no high rise inspection crap. (root breaker, this is not jersey) just go to a normal small shop to get inspected and you should have no problems. make sure everything works on your truck.

you will need the emissions sticker since you'll be in allegeny county.

Well that brings the SUCK! I have a '91 S-10 w/a BUILT 355 in it. It's a vin "A" truck. 2.5L Iron Duke. I got tired of having only half of the engine there.
