Well mine is all beat up plus its off the truck now. So tell me what ya guys think i am gonna rough the whole thing up with a 80grit flap wheel and paint it with hammertite Paint. My grandpa and my dad think i am better off putting it on the truck and masking the truck off the paint the bumper. what ya guys think of that idea.

Thanks

Paint it off the truck. Alot less hassle, just let it dry completly before installing it. I've done that to a crhome bumper before myself, I just sand blasted it and primed and painted. It held up well for years.

i actually just did my front and rear bumpers. i sanded them down with 60 grit untill the chrome was either gone or wasnt shiny. then i did 2 coats of Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer. Then 2 Coats of Rustoleum gloss Black. came out awesome. took it wheelin the next weekend and was tappin trees and when i got home not a single chip.

last one is from today after i put my new shocks on. took it wheelin last weekend and bounced off a tree to the left of the passenger side clevis hanger. didnt even chip the paint

the stuff i used was just rustoleum gloss black. all rustoleum rattle cans are anti rust i think and i just used some Ace Hardware Generic spray bomb gray with the same primer i mentioned earlier and it came out fine

also
i roughed mine up with 60 grit then wiped the whole thing down with acetone. sprayed the primer then the paint. came out amazing

anything else man?

Exactly What i did.

Nope i got everything i need to know i will post up some pics hopefully tommarow before i install it, and after as well.

problem I used 2 coats of Self Etching Primer, and 3 coats of Velspar Aluminium "Anti Rust". and the paint is dry, but if you touch it your hands turn Silver. Its a Oil based enamal. There is no sighns that you touched the paint but your hands are silver. I was told when it gets drier out the problem will go away, cause its been like 86-94% humidity latley. not good painting weather. All i know about this is I am getting really pissed off at it. Any advise would be apressiated.

did you use all one brand of paint or a couple different ones? thats might be your problem.

it has never really happened to me so i cant help ya out on that one. i know theres a couple guys real good with paint and body work on here like ryoken so maybe they"ll pop in

i used only two different brands, but i talk to the guy down at the paint suplly place and he said it would be fine.
