I've searched for this already, but couldn't find anything. The body of my truck is in really bad shape. I'm not looking to do anything professional to it. At this point, I just want to primer the entire thing. Any idea how much I'd need? I've found 12oz spray cans of rustoleum primer for ~$4 each, as well as 1qt cans of rustoleum primer for ~$21. For me, it'd be easier to use the spray cans, but if it comes out cheaper to roll it on, I'll go that way. So, about how much of this stuff would I need if I went in either direction?

Thanks.

the roll on I believe will come out better after 5 coats
the spray on will be done sooner after a couple coats but might not look as good

Dont forget, you can spray on the rustoleum from the quart with a cheapy harbor freight spray gun. Also, are you sure it wasnt $21 for the gallon? I have seen the rustoleum primer (and paint for that matter) At my local lowes for about $9.00 a quart. Avery4jc sprayed his dodge with rustoleum from the quarts.

I didn't even think about getting it at Lowe's. I'll have to check that out. My k5 is so full of rust and bondo that it won't look good no matter what I do. So, I don't care what it looks like afterward. I just want the cheapest solution. And, I don't want to have to make multiple trips for paint.

Dude in this month's issue of 4WOR painted his nice red K5 with 12 cans of Krylon I believe

I've seen that $50 paint job. If I had nicer sheet metal, I'd definitely give it a shot. I've considered bedliner as well. How much do you think I'd need for that? Volume-wise. Thanks.

To get a good coat all over with bedliner, id guess at least 2 gallons... I used a gallon and a half just on my floor.

I'm planning on removing the top and putting on tube doors. I'm gonna look into bedliner. I'll drive it till it rusts out from beneath me.

By better, do you mean that it's more likely to wear quicker? Or, is it some other quality? I don't really care what it looks like, as long as it's not pink.

BTW, if I were to do the interior at the same time as the exterior, how much would I need? 3 gallons? 4?

I bet it'd take 4 to get a decent coat.

And actually I think for bedliner that stuff I posted is ten times better than herculiner or duplicolor stuff you can get at parts stores. Better deal for the amount you get for sure also.

And yes the black has uv protection stuff in it so it doesn't fade in the sun.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably have to wait on the bedliner. $300 + materials is a bit more than I can afford at the moment. I'll just get a couple of gallons of primer for now.

Check it out fellas! It's the Mary K5! :haha:

You sure the PO you got it from didn't send his wife out in that gem to sell cosmetics?

No offense, just having a bit of fun. At least the truck itself doesn't appear to be that rough all around!
