i left a set a of zero rates in the bed of my blazer and they got wet and began to get surface rust, i took a wirebrush to them and they look good again, but i primed them and am painting them, i shouldnt have a problem painting and priming them should i?

Nope, no problems with painting them. You probably don't want to get carried away with a thick paint or powder coat since it'll crumble out anyway but our standard issue paint job is a coat of whatever is handy. It's usually Krylon since it dries almost before it hits the part and lets you get the goodies on quick.
