Parasitic Drag th400 VS th350

I had a 79 with a 74 350 110,000 miles and a th350/203 in a halfton. Upgraded to a different truck with a 350/th400/203 in a 1 ton. Took the blown 350 out and put the same 110,000 mile 350 in and I dont notice a bit of difference. All I know is the th400 has 300,000 miles on it (5 motors over the years w/ out a rebuild on a construction truck) and it still works fine. Power output is the same and I noticed a little gas mileage suffering and thats probably due to the 1 ton axles vs 1/2 tonners. Once my th400 goes out im ready for my 700r4 doubler combo. I like overdrive and lower first gear personally.
 
Cool. I just wanted to see what the difference in between the two were as far as power being robbed from the engine. That and i learned a cool new word i wanted to try out:D :haha:
 
I noticed a difference in acceleration, seat of the pants not timed, betwen the 350THM and 400 THM behind a mild ~400 hp 455 olds.The 350THM was faster

ANd the there is posts like this that just make me wonder :thinking:
 
the 350 has a lower first gear and this can be attributed to the quicker acceleration not parasitic drag

As already posted, I very much doubt the extremely small difference in the first gear ratio was noticable. You are talking 2.48 vs. 2.52......that's 0.04 different...........
 
bah, you can always get the 2.75:1 th400 1st gear... :grin:
