parking brake options.

the newer 14bff uses a drum in hat setup. Im certainly not against it, but as you asked, im not sure how easy the swap is to put the new stuff on older axles. Im planning a trip out to the junkyard next week, theres a.... well to be honest im not sure what the heck it is. im guessing a short-order-chef truck. kinda a food delivery truck with the ability to cook as well. anyone who worked as a mechanic probably knows what im talkin about.

anyway, its got SRW full floaters, and seems pretty new, so i may try and harvest some parts off of it. i was just gonna to after the SRW hubs.... but if its disk brakes i may take everything i can get and see if i can make em fit.

I will plumb in a line loc on mine, but I'm forgoing the parking brake and relying on the parking pawl in the 700R4 to keep the truck from going anywhere with mine when I do the discs on my 14BFF. If I lose pressure, the proportioning valve will slide and and keep pressure in one circuit ( I know since I just reset it last night). If my master goes out, I will use obstacles and gears! Like stated before, a parking brake on our trucks is virtually worthless for anything other then holding the rears on a slight incline.

I will have to have one for it to pass state inspection.
so i will be watching to see what is the best way to go.

if you are going to do 14bff swap,i would not waste to much time on cadilac calipers.you have to buy too much extra stuff and still have a ebrake that doesnt hold as good as you would like it to.it is fine on flat ground but any incline and it doesnt hold too much over a 5 degree difference.as is you would need a conversion ujoint or a modified d-shaft anyway to run the 14 bolt.its just easier and from what ive seen holds much better with the d-shaft ebrake and new d-shaft with the correct ujoint.at least te tsms come with the lever and return spring.i had to have one made so that the cable would hold and give almost a 3 inch pull to engage the brakes.looks nice but doesnt work as good as id like it to.

i have to have one on my truck as well to pass state inspection. mine has to be a mechanical emergency/parking brake and not hydraulic... not sure if its the same in texas or not. im thinking the best option though is to keep the drums or go with a pinion brake on the transfer case.

e-brake parkingbrake

Maybe one of the venders providing the brackets to switch to disk brakes could investigate on how to make a newer disk/e- brake set up from gm or ford work. maybe it just might be only a small change in the brackets. i am sure i would not be the only one to purchase a good working e- brake /disk unit.( peace of mind )my state requires working e- brake.
