So I found a listing for a rear bumper:

77-87 Chevy rear bumper

Came off a 85 Chevy short box should fit most squarebodys

Would this fit my 1978 K5 Blazer?

Would it look good on a Blazer, in your opinion?

Thanks.

Assuming the frames are the same in this area between the late 70's and 80's K5's, no, step bumpers won't work on a K5. I don't recall the bolt pattern year change for the bumper, that too changed at some point.

The frames in a K5 curve down in the rear to mount the bumper, they do not in trucks. The "step" in a step bumper is flat, thus the way to make it work on a K5 is to cut the bumper out to clear the frame where it turns down. I don't think I'd want to do that on a chrome bumper.

Blazer & suburban rear frame tails are not the same and not a direct fit wont happen .

I recall years ago someone here did some work to make a truck bumper fit and work .

They are asking $150 for the bumper. Might be able to get it for $100.

Seems like a nice bumper for the money, if it would fit........

You could flip that bumper at the 100 to 150 range if solid and clean .

I know if closer i would grab it for one of my builds .

Assuming no hitch is needed, is the problem the step area hitting the gas tank? It just looks like it would fit between the frame rails.

like said the ends of the frame are shaped different and slope down . were as truck frames are all the same and go straight out the back . its not a bolt on or a 5 -10 min mod

Besides the rear of the Blazer and Suburban frames turning down at the very rear which has already been pointed out. The frame width is also different.

The outside edge of the mounting lengths of a CUCV truck (M1008) step bumper was exactly lined up with the outside of my 1987 3/4 ton Suburban rear frame. Once I moved those 1/2 inch total to slide in the turned down frame left the bumper about 6-8 inches from the rear of the truck. The turned down frame has to be notched to allow the bumper in close.
