I have a problem, but I am trying to get better. Ten of the rallies I am giving to a couple buddies for their rigs (1979 K10, 1990 K5).

Here they are after I had them sand blasted.

Here they are loaded in the back of my 1975 K5, taking them to get painted.

That's not all of them, I probably have four more sets of rallies, and I have given several sets away already.

Its just so fun to hoard parts! I often wish i could open a chevy only junk yard as a ruse for my parts hording!

It's a dream of mine to have a junk yard. The only problem is there isn't a lot of demand, and I give away a lot more parts than I ever sell.

I don't hoard...but I do pick parts when I see them even if I already have them....because one day soon they won't be available anymore

Same here....we have same problems. I have a stash of a few things as well....couple of rims

:D I totally agree.. A spare parts truck here, or there - what's the difference right? Oh, I'll just hang on to this transmission too, maybe I'll use that in a future project!

I think the problem for me comes when I do actually use some part that's been sitting around that I never thought I'd really use. It just fuels the fire from then on giving me justification to stockpile what others criticize as JUNK!

Hi
My name is Dave
Im a square body parts hoarder

Every vehicle I ever owned would probably still be sitting in the backyard,if town zoning and my parents didn't prohibit it...as it is there is 3 in my yard with no plates, and I've been expecting a visit from the code enforcement person...:deal:..there has been front page stories in the newspaper about people getting cited for hoarding and having an "eyesore" property..mine isn't that bad,but could still get me in trouble..

I still have quite a few "spare" parts hanging around,a few transmissions that DID work when they were pulled out years ago,a 6.2 with a busted crank, and a NP-205 ,some other odds & ends..whether I'll ever get to use them is a mystery,I know as soon as I get rid of anything I'll need it though..:doah:

I have dragged quite a few rally rims home from the town dump's metal pile, and I have at least two sets for my 5 lug van ,4 of the 6" ones and 4 of the 8" ones, and at least 6 of the 6 lug 4x4 ones...
I wont let them go to the scrapper if I end up junking the van,you have a hard time finding them around here for less than 150 bucks a set any more...

I have always had a fantasy of owning a junkyard..there's gold in them thar junks...and dismantling vehicles is a lot easier and more fun than building one back up too...

Why don't you start selling off some of your stuff to chip away at your property tax bill, etc.

Having spares is one thing but a couple of sets that could get $$$ and out of a bind are another.

That is my "last resort" plan,I consider the parts (and vehicles) as sort of a money in the bank policy...worst case scenario,I can at least get 400 bucks or so if I was forced to scrap my van out,I would like to keep the carbed 307 in it for a spare engine for my trucks ,since it would only knock off maybe 70 bucks from the scrap price...and I probably have a ton or so of other "junk" I could drag in for scrap if I had too...

I hope not to have to do that though,I'd much rather fix the van and my Burb up and get more use out of them, than see them get scrapped...I've owned the van since 1990!...the Burb will probably be my next plow truck/daily driver,if I ever get the cash to put it on the road..it needs tranny work and brake work, and if I let it sit much longer,it'll need a lot of body work too--bought it in fall of 2009 and its just sat in the driveway and yard since..:(...I have a lawn tractor and some other "stuff" I'm going to get running and put on the lawn for sale, soon as they are done digging up my street--its been closed to traffic 5 days a week the past month or more.....

I'm a mild hoarder, I've always live by a rule of 3 - 1 on the truck, 1 for spare and 1 spare for the spare (in case spare #1 ever got used). At one time I had enough parts to exactly duplicate my trucks drivetrain 3 times.

In the last couple of years though I've sold off most of it to finance a lot of stuff on my Blazer. I do miss having a lot of neat extra parts but I figure if I need something I can use the power of the internet to find it.

I did have lots of extra spare parts.. I got junk happy when I moved the last time and now about once a month I need one of the items I junked. as it is right now my garage is about completely filled up with my project so all my spare parts have just about filled my attic up.

I know how you feel!!! I have 5 np241 cases right now, a dead 700R4, another with doubler, a suburban body, 2 blazers for parts, and tons of other stuff! I could probably actually use more of the parts if I sold some of them! But then I wouldn't have all of the parts! What's an addict to do?????????

This is what I try to do but I have a couple problems that occur. One is that when I do finally get the parts to duplicate my truck Ill say "hey Ive got enough stuff to put another truck together" so then I just have another truck.

Or I go looking for parts and find a complete parts truck that I "have to buy." Once I get it home I don't have the heart to knock it in the head for some spare parts and usually get it fixed and running, which Im in the process of doing now.

The end result is that I have several running trucks that will never be "complete" or have spare parts. I guess the upside is that if one breaks I can just drive the others till I find replacement parts.:dunno:

Luckily I live in the country, no code enforcement, just my wife. Who is currently funding a shop to hide all my junk in:D:woot:. Ive got a friend who is way worse too. At one time we counted 32 cars in his 1.5 acre lot. He also had 1500sqft house and 2 20x24 shop buildings that were full. No need for a lawn mower, grass didn't have room to grow:haha:

My "yard" would likely look like that if it wasn't for code enforcement...having a lawn and maintaining it is over-rated anyway!..

Trouble is today, all the code enforcement officials have to do,is log onto google maps and use the sattelite map mode to look over ALL the properties in town ,no one can "hide" vehicles like they once could if they had a long driveway and yard set way back from street view,or if they had a lot of acerage--they look for illegal "junkyards",pot grows, etc that way without even leaving their office!--no more driving around and snooping..only way to "fool" them is to put them indoors, which can cost you thousands more on property taxes for a building large enough to do so..
