NOT my regular camera but my cellphone this time....went looking at two yards today...almost gone...I have picked both of these yards over the last few years and there are less and less every time I go back...

I took the windshield wiper arms off the yellow and brown 1974 C10.

There was a perfect throttle cable bracket that fits on the back of the carburetor, I took that

I got a perfect headlight switch plunger knob but it is somehow shorter than the one in my Blazer...I don't get it, it was a 74 too

Almost took the seat belt buckles, they were nice, didn't feel like pulling the whole seatbelt set

Are those yellow fog lights on there vintage? worth anything?

Made me sad to see those chevy trucks on the flattening pile wait list...

There is a set of doors off a blue and white 1974 pickup that are just perfect..not even rusted in the rear lower corner...I would have taken them but I had no use for them

the yard i have been going to for years always had alot of old square bodies, they have recently been bought out, there prices are going up and they only want to go back to cars that are 10 years old at most and crush everything else, not happy at all bout this

That's what these guys are doing...flattening the older stuff...at one time there were at least 50 square bodies...they have flattened them all, they don;t stay on the lot long before being crushed

oh...and you never know what or when one will come in...constantly there are pickup trucks hauling trailers with cars and trucks on them...they drive up on the scales on the way in...make a circle where halfway a giant machine with a claw arm grabs it by the top, destroying all the glass...if the arm cant get it, a giant forklift stabs it in the side and hauls it off..
the trailer leaves and weighs on the way out and somebody drives off with cash...

There are a lot more in that yard than any of the many salvage yards here (square bodies I mean)...one place I go to often for parts since the 70's had at one time about 5 years ago, over 100 of them...now your lucky to see 4 or 5 tops, and they are picked clean..most of the yards here crush anything over ten years old and since the older trucks are heavier, they are the first to go..

Sucks...:(

I'd grab those cab marker lamps..the doors that are good would bring 100 each up here easily..I kept so-so doors off my 77 GMC just in case I had one on my 82 get caved in or a window busted, even though they had some rot..the stainless mirrors alone was worth keeping them for too...you cant find used GM sheet metal here very often--junkyards push cars against each other and ruin any decent sheet metal often..especially old stuff..

Anyone else notice the 67-72 noses dont seem to rot out as bad as the 73 up ones do?...seems like every one I see, even up here in salt land, has held remarkably well compared to the 73 up style front fenders and radiator supports..better metal I guess?..

73-74 headlight bezels with the black inset are very hard to find if they are in good shape.

You have to go back there asap take some wd 40 ! Look at the suburban.
I need these before the end of month! If it have a good switch inside for rear window I need the rocker part. mime has a hole in it and I get shocked.

I thought about you when I was up there but I know next to nothing about Burbs and different years. I'll go back and check (if it is still there)
Where is the switch located that you are looking for...tell me what tools I need to take (I left home without a philips screwdriver and was cussing myself)

Spray them with WD and let it seep into the titty. Then with a slight pulling and turning motion pop them out. The bracket has one screw not sure of size but small socket set should get it. Here is the bezel from the back side screw is at the bottom.

Did that Burb look like the right year?

That body style it looks around an 87 but the backs all look alike. Any 80's to 91 should have them. How far away is it? The switch is minor but if you can get it easy do it. I have black tape on mine for now.

The rubber things at NAPA need a small screw to hold them. The GM ones push into a small hole.

Let me know and I'll flip ya some gas money too. Snowing here today and I am bummed no work getting done.

it's about 26 miles away, and would be Saturday morning before I could go again, so that's still plenty of time....I'll need to go earlier than I did this time because I was pushing their closing time.
I may as well get those running lights too...if I'd had a philips head I would have taken that 1974 GMC grill too...although I don't know how much they want for larger parts...just like those doors...they probably get $75 each and that's a long time to hold onto an expensive part unless I could turn it to somebody who need it right away.

I need those tailgate trunions off that Burb too...I think they are the same as mine..

I'd get the head light trim and fender name badges. Even with out the pins if they are in one piece some one who is restoring a truck will buy them. GMC stuff was rarer than Chevy and then the age makes them more valuable. For nice 1988 style they go for around $20 on fleabay. Any GMC hood things are rarer too.

If I was back in Ohio I would make it a weekly thing to do of going to look for things and listing them on fleabay. If they were going to cruch the bodies and they had unmolested dashes I'd cut the radio openings off and sell them as repair for resto jobs.

Any way if you get the rubber bumpers things let me know and what I need to send ya.

Dude, grab those GMC, 73-74, and 75-76 grilles! Especially the GMC and 75-76 as they don't reproduce those grilles. I'd try to get all the trim and fender emblems you could too, but thats just me. I collect all that stuff when I'm at yards when I can. Got them all displayed on the wall in my garage for now. Gotta save all the original parts for 73-80's trucks you can, its getting harder to find...

If I lived by you I'd run out there and get that stuff, are their prices fair?

Did you see any front door wood grain trim panels from 75-76 trucks? I'm looking for some that aren't sun damaged and cracking. Ones that match my rears:

there are no door panels worth getting...seems someone was mangled them getting the window regulators...all the wood panels are severely damaged

The side emblems would likely have to be broken off...with no wheels and most low into the ground it's impossible to get to the speed nuts.

How do you remove them? screwdiver, small pry bar?
