This last trip to the Hammers I had one tank at 9 something as the low and two tanks at 11+ as the high. Several more fell into the 10 range.

Like I said, count on 10 mpg. Maybe a bit higher if you have a two wheel drive but I wouldn't count on it.

If your coming that far get a cabin with shower and plan to eat food you cook to help save a bit of $$. Definitely stay for a while, there are nice site seeing things around Moab that don't require wheeling.

You guys are running a programmer, my 04 is almost identical (LLY with ZF 6 speed) to yours and I average about 8.5-9mpg with a stock tune and a similar load (cabover camper, trailer, rig). That being said I plan on having a programmer by blazer bash this year. I'm guessing diesel will be over $5 a gallon again.
 
We get between 10 and 11 with our '06 Powerstroke pulling the big passes on I70 with a pickup bed camper and the General in tow. We generally run 60mph until we get to the west side of Junction, then step it up to 70mph.

This year I felt bad for the guys with the gassers running west on I70 Thursday in the high winds. Some of those guys were getting 6-8mpg.
 
Last year I had spent the week prior to BB in Ouray, CO. I almost ran out of fuel going from Grand Jct to Moab (26 gallon tank). We had a terrible head wind and I averaged about 6mpg for that leg.

Of the ~3000 miles I put on my truck on that trip I averaged 9mpg though. 04 crew cab dmax 2500hd, 2200lb cabover camper, trailer and the beast in tow.

Seems like there's a head wind on that leg every year coming and going.
 
I don't normally have to do that leg so it was a bit of a surprise to me
 
In the northern part of the state we substitute Wyoming in place of Kansas.... :whistle:
 
Ours is 779 mile from house to Slickrock cg. I'm figuring $1000 to get there and back for fuel and some food on the way. We drive it straight threw though, about 12 hours. We like the cabins too. It is cheaper to get one than to haul my slide in camper down with the fuel millage lost. But does it really matter, it BB and Moab! I really need to move closer to that part of the world, would be a pay raise just in lack of miles I travel every year!
 
Scott may have a semi with a 53' trailer to haul a couple of us down this year :D might make gas a little cheaper.

Im not sure what I get in Dodge towing but if it was what some of you are getting I would drive a gasser :eek1:

I spent around $400 in Hotel room last year might go a different route this year, but I really like the pool and shower and free breakfast !

Ya I run the predator first version, on the 65 horse setting now. used to run it on 85 but Limping the transmission was way to easy. I also run the PPE boost control, maxed out in Colorado then about half way at lower elevations. I try to keep max boost at 30psi or slightly less on hard pulls.

Then again I did have to do head gaskets this year:whistle:. Went with the ARP head studs, LBZ mouth piece, made my own 4" intake using the stock air box and filter, removed the EGR completely, and installed the diamond eye down pipe. 4" exhaust with no cat.

All this makes 5th gear in the Allison a bit unhappy if you don't pay attention but 4th gear on hills is amazing. There isn't really a hill from here to California that I go slower than 65 on.:D

Before you do a tuner, do gauges. Watch what you're egt's run stock. The LLY motors run some stupid high egt's from the factory. I fought Egt's before the intake and down pipe.
 
I'm seriously reconsidering this trip. My son and I went to Katemcy last week and he had a blast. I need to go to Amarillo to pick up my blazer and this puts me around the same time of BB. Just booked a trip to Vegas in august with the wife so that is taken care of. Now I just need to bust ass this month at work for extra mula. What place has a shower/ restroom but decent lodging? Anyone from Texas going?
 
Cabins at most of the campgrounds work really well. I don't know if any of the cabins at Slickrock - the most popular camping choice - have showers, but you can use the main showers all the campers use. Moab Rim RV Campark has cabins with and without showers. Those are the only 2 I know anything about. I think you will find most all the privately owned campgrounds have some sort of shower facilities.
 
I'm counting on 2k in fuel, 500 for food and accomodations and making sure I have another 1k in reserve for spare parts for both the tow rig and the offroad rig. I am hoping it doesn't cost that much, but for the trip of my lifetime thus far, I can afford it!
