Phil's '88 Big Blue Build Thread

Thanks! I'm thinking of 35X12.50 General red letters, unless someone here has a reason why that is a horrible idea. lol.

And I'm keeping the rallys, going to mount them blackwall 'cause I think the red letters might look odd.

I hear they're good tires, but they're also about the heaviest in their class. I don't know what gears you have, but if you have something like 3.08s, you'll feel a big power loss. But this is true with most any 35.

I went from 3.08s to 4.10s with 35s and was satisfied. Eventually went to one tons and 4.56s and still satisfied. This is all with a 700R4, though.

I have 3:42s, which i know isn't ideal. I'm kinda hoping with the sm465 that the low will just become my first gear, and see how that goes.

If it sucks, I guess I'll teach myself how to do a ring and pinion.

I'm open to other tire suggestions, as long as they aren't too costly. Maybe just the regular BFG ATs?

I'm a cheap ass, so I just look for good deals on used tires.

I actually thought of that, I'll check that out. I'm not sure tires for 15 inch wheels are very plentiful anymore.

Finally just landed on the BFG ATs. I absolutely love it. I was really worried about the gearing, but it scoots around just fine. I was surprised actually. I don't have to use the "L" gear. I need to do something about the speedo though. *EDIT* BTW, this is a 4" Zone lift with 35's.

No rubbing yet, but all i have done so far is pull one front wheel up on a curb and try steering back and forth.

Maybe later today I'll get the forklift and really push its limits. But it doesn't look like it will be a problem.

I gotta say too, all you who suggested I just pitch the sway bar, you were totally correct. I can't tell any difference at all, even when I try to swerve the thing. Actually, I think it rides better now than it did stock.

Looks good. New tires?

Martin

Thank you. Yeah, I had an old Manx buggy i sold for a thousand bucks, with the intention of getting tires. These came to 900 out the door from Big O.

I'm extremely happy so far. It affected the gearing a whole lot less than I was expecting.
