Phil's '88 Big Blue Build Thread

Bolt on is fine, IF you don't have frame cracks behind the steering box.

No, no cracks right now. Until I got ahold of it, it had itty bitty tires it's whole life. lol. I checked though, no cracks.

I believe that you would be fine with just the bolt on. I think that the weld on is designed to repair the frame and be used with the bolt on brace.
A front locker makes both braces more important .

Cool. I don't think I'll ever go to a front locker. Been pondering a Detroit Truetrac though, but that would be down the road away.

Well, of course I'll put one in the Dana 60. After which of course I'll need hydro assist. Might as well go 39.5's at that point.

Of course.
ARB for the win. Something spectacular about spending a lot of money to not use something!

Can you point me toward something like that?
This is what we run on all our trucks at work. We have 12,000lb winches on 18,000lb trucks. Its an ANN350 fuse from Napa (350amps) and the holder is a Buss 4164. If you google ANN fuse holder there's all kinds of styles and prices. Usually the fuse blows before the operator melts anything else down as long as you have correct size cables and good connections. They make a ANN500(500 amps) but it's usually too much.

Sorry for the crappy pic.

Well, with the 1 year anniversary of owning my truck fast approaching, we celebrated today by passing smog check.

HOORAY! Didn't even have to fiddle with anything. Whew.

Mine has "Classic " plates, no emissions for life :burnout:

How does that work? The Colorado DMV told me I could only get collector plates for my 76??
'75 and older is the rule now. Mine is grand fathered in under their old law which was 25 years or older.
Emissions once at purchase and if you sell it.

I can get classic plates, but it's a pain in the ass here. You have to keep it under 5000 miles a year, so you have to go to the DMV every year for them to verify it.

Since it passes smog, I can renew at a kiosk in 2 minutes.

See that's why I did the classic plates here, way easier. No verification, walk in, swipe card, new stickers good for 5 years.

I hate DMV hoops. Whatever makes it easy
