Phil's '88 Big Blue Build Thread

Yeah, but I think we already beat that horse to death.
For you. But my goal is overlanding. Trails and camping. I don't like smashing into things, and I hate mud. I wanna run snowy roads and winding forest trails. I have not yet been bitten by the rock crawling bug. I have much more interest in having a nice camping setup than in getting through Fordyce.

Thus, ARBs are not a good idea for me at this level of craziness. Maybe in a few years.
Mine's being built to overland. That's the beauty of a selectable, it does everything.

IknowIknowIknowIknowIknow. I know they're awesome. But I'm not nearly deep enough into offroading to make the purchase worthwhile. That's a bunch of cash to cough up for a rig that's still in pieces. Maybe in a few years I'll have more need and more money.

I have decided on a detroit in the rear, and a cable shifted ox locker for my front.

Which means I'll put the 10 bolt spartan I have now in the rear before Blazer Bash.

Your post on the Red White and Poo truck. ARB is the only thing you'd put in. I think that was you, maybe not. hahaha. I do worry about living with a Detroit. I have been ready to buy one for awhile

Thing is, its 116 degrees here right now, and I just don't feel in a hurry to start working on stuff, so I have time to think.

That was me. ARB should sponsor me.
But you can buy 2 Detroit's for the price of an ARB and pump.

No gears have arrived yet, lol. But you just scared me about my detroit locker plans.

Oh. Well, one reason that they haven't arrived yet is that they haven't left yet.

I did pull the ring gear off today, wrap it in paper, and set it in the car with the pinion. I'm planning to swing past the post office and see if I can fit the 10.5" gearset in a flat rate box. Not sure yet how that's gonna go. Will update when it happens. :)
