Phil's '88 Big Blue Build Thread

And, of course, that phrase conjures up epic imagery from yesteryear... :thumb:

I hope this momentary distraction brings you a much-needed chuckle.

Now get back to work! :D
Haha Petra!

Blue. They recommend it. Either way, I just want it to hold together until I put the 14 bolt in. Then it's someone else's problem.
My general rule of thumb is to put blue loctite on anything that spins and can cause bad things if it comes out. I.E. engine stuff and drivetrain stuff.

When I took the cover off, it looked like this. Means there was water in it, right? Nothing was rusted though, ring gear looked real good, no chips or anything.

Great... Lol jk. Looking at the fluid in the bottom of the case it looks clean. Check the fluid that you drained and see what it looks like. But as long as the bearings feel ok I wouldn't worry bout it

It was actually really nice inside, no shavings or anything collected at the bottom. Makes me think the miles were actually correct. It looked in real good shape. Just didn't know what the foam was. Maybe some foaming is normal, I had just drivin it to work then popped the cover.

Yeah I bet it's just foam. If you just got done driving it the oil in the bottom of the case would look like coffee with creamer in it.

Either way, fresh oil now. Make sure the breather hose is clear through to the diff and the tip elevated

Ive run a small drill bit through the nipple on the diff to clear the dirt
