Few more game / Gus pics. I live in town and don't have time or skill set to train a bird dog. He is decent at retrieving doves, sits still when squirrel hunting and we have tracked hogs in fresh snow. Basically he is my 24/7 hunting, fishing, hangin out and beer drinking buddy. He was pretty good in the deer stand til he figured out we are hunting deer. Then he'd get worked up and start barking when they showed up. Now he stays in the truck.

Hunted and camped the last 4 days. Finally got my kid his first buck yesterday morning on his first deer hunt. 4x5. 300 yd downhill shot with a .270 his grandpa gave him this year. Right through the heart. Grandpa was with him too.
That's awesome. I've wanted to take my boys on a mule deer hunt but it's pricey for a guided hunt, like 4k. Great shot! I tried to eat the heart one year and decided those will just be dog treats
Oh I love hearts, I grew up eating them even raw.
Slice a deer heart thin, roll the pieces in flour and chicken fry. Deer camp breakfast staple when I was a kid and its hard to beat. Nice deer and pics - beautiful country up there.

We had a good time in Kansas over the Thanksgiving holiday...we stuck around an extra week so my kid could hunt the rifle opener, and he got his first deer.
It was a comedy of errors, learning, and decision-making...but in the end he got it done and figured out that you can't eat the antlers.

At first I thought a parakeet but wrong tail.
Never seen that color bird other than that.
