saw it on craigslist in sacramento, ca and thought hey that's kinda neat so I went and picked it up
it's got the champion 6 170ci flathead and 3 on the tree, it runs and drives just needs some carb work for starting but it idles nicely and revs smooth, no smoke and doesn't overheat

all the electrical works and is factory 12v which is nice

needs driver/passenger floor boards and full interior but all the parts are there

plans are airbags, interior, front disc conversion, and maybe liven up the motor a bit with a 2bbl and custom headers and just clean it up and enjoy it

have any of you guys seen an air ride system using braided high pressure hose?

the hardline stuff is cool but seems like everybody does it, i'm thinking some russel 350psi AN black braided hose with the blue tracer strand woven into it, routed cleanly with hose separators to keep it all looking uniform

Can't help on the air lines, but quick derail, where are you at with your other projects? Haven't seen any updates in a while

the ford is done for the most part, or I at least just don't want to put anymore money into it, I parted out my crawler awhile back in favor of a mildly built '99 2 door cherokee and took it through the rubicon in september which was a ton of fun then picked up the Studebaker last Sunday

out your Chevy I really liked that thing. But not a bad looking jeep. Plus I dig that ford. Keep on keepin on. Looking forward to this one.

I think I saw a pic of that jeep on Pirate....

Interested to see what you do with the Studebaker since I really enjoyed the Ford build.

Started some basic mockup tonight I pulled all the leafs from the rear except the main one.

My plan for the rear is to run only the main leaf and a small traction bar to locate the axle and have the bags do the rest of the work.

I would like to see it lay frame so I may go to a lower profile tire rather than do any frame notching just to keep things simple.

My older brother has owned a few old Studebakers,a '41 Champion Bussiness Coupe and a '42 Champion 4 dr..the coupe looked a lot like a Willys and was a real neat ride..

Both of them had the straight six 170 engine,I think they used that engine right up until the 1963 year or so,so finding parts wasn't that difficult..

He even found a high performance high compression aluminum head for one of the engines from a place in CT that specializes in Stude's..had no trouble finding parts to rebuild the engines, they were not exactly cheap however..

He now has a '57 Studebaker pickup,he sold both the cars a few years back..
The pickup has a Nova subframe,Chevy 350 and a late 70's Firebird disc brake rear end in it...I haven't seen him in 2 years so I haven't ridden in that yet..

Stude's are a neat car that often get overlooked ,and can still be found at a reasonable cost sometimes..

Who's air system are you planning on using?

Haven't quite decided yet but looking at a package from slam specialties out of Fresno, using dual viair compressors, dual tanks, their central manifold, their bags, and an accuair controller also includes all the wiring and tubing.
I'm planning on doing a show type setup with copper hardlines rather than the braided flex hose in the trunk and thinking of doing a hardwood subfloor for all the components to be mounted to.

Do you have suggestions for an air system I should look into this will be my first air ride vehicle so I'm pretty green?

Just got done with an all Accuair system on a 1950 olds. Stupid simple setup. Clean look with there mounting kit

Awesome, yeah the concept of it is pretty simple basically connect everything in the proper sequence, do you have a build anywhere?

I was looking over the front A-arms tonight and there's a big flat surface to easily weld a plate to for the lower mount and the frame of the car already has fairly large coil buckets so I don't see to much trouble there, just a matter of getting the height dialed in.

The rear doesn't look to overly complex either, I'm looking at more modern rear ends to swap in with similar widths. The stock axle from what I have gathered is a dana 27 and it has splined outer shafts with a castle nut and cotter pin and the brake drum is integrated into the hub and wheel studs.

I'm looking at finding a dana 35 out of a jeep cherokee xj, from my research the width is less than an inch difference, it'll be a bit stronger and more modern, has the 5x4.5 lug pattern I want and they aren't so big like say a ford 8.8 or chrysler 8.25 that they will make for cramped spaces. There's quite a bit of room between the gas tank and axle as well so welding in brackets shouldn't be much trouble.

No build. Customers car. I have a few phone pics for my "portfolio".
Best I have of the set up.

Looks good, would you recommend having independent control over each corner or just front/back? I'm leaning towards front/back because I don't think I'll really need or want all that adjustability, basically just up, down, or raked is what I want.

That system has control over all 4 (Plus the smart phone control). Its also self leveling so if you get a fatass sitting in the back, it will straighten itself out.
With the phone app he can mess with it remotely, so the 4 corner adjustability helps with the cool factor:cool:
I think it's one of those things once you set it you really wont mess with it, but if something is offkilter you can correct it with the controller .
