Picking up My new 74' k5

We spoke a couple of times. When he was trying to replace some interior pieces I told him what I was thinking about getting rid of off of my 74. That was about it.
Wait so you're going to dismantle a clean pretty original K5 to throw a fiberglass body on it when the body doesn't need anything?

kinda how i feel, but its not my truck nor my money, atleast he isnt making a trail rig out of it.

NO WAY!!! i'm removing the original tub and repainting it so that it doesn't get destroyed. It'll just sit in my garage. I'd feel bad if I was driving and some clown rear ended me or something and ruined that body....

usbodysource.com. 8k. I want to protect the original tub by keeping it off the road. I'll just repaint it and store it. The fiberglass tub can be replaced but an original body in this kind of shape is hard to come by.

The big part of what makes it nice is that the body and frame are all together and unmolested. Why not just find a not-so-nice bodied k5 and put the fiberglass tub on that frame? It's probably the same amount of money and the original k5 gets to stay as-is? You could probably find someones built trail rig they gave up on and put a nice body on it.
If you're going to store an entire k5 tub, keeping a frame underneath it doesn't take much more space and would make it easier to move around your garage when you needed to.

Great point. I won't begin work on it till december so I have time to come up with a game plan that, I hope, will be best for the truck. Its not in showroom original condition and I'd like to bring it back to that. Frame off will most likely be required. For now I'm just going to enjoy it as is.

I would keep it a good weather driver and enjoy it, fix it up and be proud of her.
As mentioned find another rig for the fiberglass body to go on, personally the effort and work of those body's is not something i would give up that much of my free time for anymore. For the 8 k plus nickel and dimming you could get a cheap 80's rig every two years for 8 years lol

I have a '74 K5 frame with the original D44 and 12 bolt axles which have factory 4.10 gears in them if you'd be interested in buying this to put your fiberglass body on instead of the other one.
If you're interested, take it to PM's...
