Guys, I'm getting 9mpg driving 55. If I were to go 700R4, lower 1st and OD, how much improvement might I see?

9mpg seems pretty low. I'm probably getting 12 or better with 35's and 3.73 gears right now, not using OD at all; but my driving style is that of trying to save gas.
Plugged converter? General tune up (spark plugs, wires, oil change, filter, etc)? For me, the worst part of getting a new (to me) vehicle is doing all the maintenance right off; since you never know for sure what the PO did.

I drive to save $ most of the time...I ain't in a hurry. It has an off idle stumble and I'm pretty sure it could use a tuneup. I will be doing that. It also had a fuel leak at one of the tank fittings I fixed the other night. I'm hoping that will get me over 10mpg, and I have a 700r4 laying around that I could have built by a friend of a friend who has a performance tranny shop, just wondering how much difference it might make.

If you are running a th400 in that burb which I think you are a 700r4 will def help. Just make sure you fix all the weak points of the 700r4. I have a 84 k5 and 86 K10 and I get 13 in the blazer and 13-14ish in the k10. Both are carb'd as well. But both have 700r4's

700 might not help much if you only drive 55? It really should do better mpg than 9 the way it is.
I will always recommend a TH700R4 over a TH400.
