Pics of my Dana 60 14BFF Install

X2. Man I'm gonna come up there and steal that steering wheel. I hope you got this thing locked up good! :D

Thanks for all the compliments guys. The pics don't do it justice. It really looks better in person IMHO. I checked the steering wheel for both arm on the window operation mode and arm on the door pad operation mode. Both of them worked great for me. I do have Ape Arms though. I am 6'2" with arms for a 6'4" person. :-)

It looks very nice, great work. How did you decide to keep the trim rings behind the gauges on the main panel?

When using the stock dash panel, if you don't use angle correction rings, the gauges will be pointing toward the floor. The dash that I am going to sell has angle correction built into it so you don't need the rings. It only fits 1987 and down. I forgot about the radio being different in the 88 to 91's, so I ended up being easier to modify my stock dash.

That's right, for some reason I was thinking that was the covans dash, but you painted the stock one so you needed the angle rings to mount them on top. When do you think you will have the exhaust finished and/or the trans working so you are ready for a test drive? I bet you are getting excited.

Here is the one that I started with that fits 73 to 87. I forgot about the radio being totally different so I decided to rework my stock dash. If mine had been an 87, I would have used it. It really tucks the gauges back under the overhang nicely and they are pointed correctly at you.

This is the one that I got less the intermittent wiper hole. If you have it, you can easily cut it with a Dremel or a Razor knife if you are careful and take your time.

I am VERY EXCITED!! This weekend, I am going to cover all of my wiring underhood, tie all my runs, cover it in covoluted tubing and secure all of it. I am also going to install a trailer brake controller. I have a list of odd and end stuff to do. I think it will eat up the weekend and then I will be ready for the exhaust. I have all the tranny ecm permanently wired up, I just need to cover my runs and secure all of it. I can dump a basic program in it now. I am going to call Magnaflow this week and tell them what I have to see what convertors and mufflers that they recommend. Based on what they tell me, I will pick those items up this week. I have all of the rest of the exhaust already.

So, finish everything up this weekend and get a base cal in the tranny where I can move it in and out of the shop and set the floats and idle on the carb. Top off all fluids.

The following weekend, I should be ready to tackle the exhaust. I have never built a system like this completely solo so I don't know how long it will take me. I am pretty anal about how it looks.....so if I screw up....I will cut it out and do it again. I don't have a lift so that will make it a little harder on the ol back too. I am going in for a 3rd spinal fusion the third weekend in December.....so I am gunning to have everything finished and drive it a little before that happens. That way, I have something to look forward too....to motivate me to get well.:D I had a buddy that I went to high school with that does NICE custom exhaust but he doesnt have 3" mandrels and he is 5 hours away. I dont want to truck it all the way down there and by the time I do all that...I can do it myself. Plus, if I run into something that I havent thought of, I want to be able to have time to fabricate whatever I need to make it right.

Looks awesome. Sounds awesome. Can't smell it but I'll go out on a limb and say it must be awesome! Good work.

F'n A that's an AWSOME burb!

I worked at a speed shop in the late 80's, had a customer with a built 396 in an FJ 40 with 35's, when he got it running and came by the shop to show it to us he left the parking lot sideways smokin all 4 tires. Something to think about when you show yours off here!

:D:D:D

I would seriously try to put some anti-theft protection on it for real. Not because of me :D but to thwart real thieves. My '85 that I have now has been stolen and I can tell you that they didn't have to do much work at all to break into it, bust the cover off the steering column and break the little rod that attaches to the ignition switch. Probably took one or two minutes and they were gone.

I'm sure a Burb as awesome as yours would be a prime target for auto theives, especially when you've got it parked in town somewhere. Have you seen that adapter that Grant makes that lets you take your steering wheel off? It will work with the wheel you've got. I think it's about $250 and you can detach the wheel and put a metal cover over the end of the column in just a couple of seconds. My truck is only about 1% as cool as yours but I'm thinking about getting one for it.

Andy, I know what your saying man. I have had my vehicles broken into multiple times over the years but never stolen. Fortunately, I can keep my stuff inside at the house. At my office, I am on the 5th floor and I look straight at my parking spot and we have a security guard. I have thought long and hard about whether to really make a show truck out of this by going ahead and doing the interior and a really nice paint job on it or leave it alone for that reason. To make it even worse, I only have liability insurance on it. Book value on this truck is about $2,500. My insurance company would NEVER pay a 10th of what I have in this thing. The worst part would be my labor. There is NO TELLING how many hours I have in this thing and I have done all of it myself. I have put some old school security on it that I don't want to post. The steering wheel thing from grant is a great idea. I will have to see what my cost on that deal is. It's always in the back of my head. When we travel with the boats, I can't sleep at night in a hotel. I stay up all night looking out the windows and going to check on it. I have full coverage on it, but its the same way, I have hundreds of hours of my labor and custom built parts that can never be replaced.

I carry a subcompact Glock 45 on me at all times and a Pug 22 magnum in my pocket. If I ever caught them, it would be their last theft. The older I get, the more I want to walk around carrying my 50 cal Barrett around with me. I think a GPS tracking device may by the best thing to put on this in addition to what I already have.

I've got a couple of these since it seems the first way they go is either the ignition or taring the column apart.
