Pics of my Dana 60 14BFF Install

I'm not sure how I missed this thread for so long but subscribed!!
This is an amazing build.

I can't believe the work and progress made in such a short time and with the floods:eek1:! Great work!!!

I hope all is working out well with the house and your wife.

Don`t get me wrong, not trying to be a dink or anything like that, but if you want to could you make a guess on the cost of your build one day. Amazing sub, good job!! Keep posting. HAVE FUN!!

Ok guys...here is the update. I have been slammed at work and I have been waiting on a ton of fittings and I changed the whole fuel set up. I tore the demon carb apart to clean and "pre tune" for the dyno. Once I got it apart.....to say I was dissapointed was an understatement. There is no tuning on this thing other than the jets. The passageways and orifice machining / casting was pitiful. So, I went back to square one and ordered a 950 holley double pumper street strip that has screw in air bleeds. With the screw in air bleeds, jets, cams, linkages etc that I have I can tune one of these to where the afr is on the money throughout the entire rpm band. I am also setting up my fuel system to what I normally do on my supercharged 1,000hp 598 set up. That way if I want to upgrade to a power adder on this setup later on, the fuel system is already there to support it. I took a couple of pics of the #10 fittings next to my thumb to get an idea of what size lines will be supporting this thing....and I am 6'2" and have some mits on me.:D The 950 that I have has vacuum to support brakes, timed (I need that for the distributor), and normal vacuum. The Dominator and ultra 950 do not have vacuum provisions so they would not work on this set up. The only thing I gave up was the choke....but the accellerator pumps will provide plenty of fuel to keep it running on cold starts....you will just have to feather the throttle a little for a brief warm up when it gets really cold. This motor really needs more than an 850 on it...that chevy does. You just loose the choke beyond 850 and thats why they stopped at the 850. Notice the 720hp crate motor has a dominator but they tought that as an all out race motor which it is at 12+:1 compression.

I got my wires in....they are about 10mm in diameter (badazz). I had to paint a couple of fittings (they still don't make everything in black yet). So, I am finishing the plumbing and wiring today for the dyno. The only thing I dont like is how close the headers are to my oil adapter where my lines come out to go to the cooler. I may change up to a remote filter mount and do away with the current set up.

I did some preliminary measurements on how tall the motor has grown too (I also put a billet 1" Hamburger spacer under the 950) and it wont fit under the hood anymore...so I went and bought a cowl induction hood for the burb this morning. So..here are some pics....I will post more tonight when I finish the plumbing and stuff....but this will give you an idea of what it is going to look like.

Ok, here is my carb plumbing finished. I also spent several hours today finding a 3/16" 90 degree vacuum connector so that I could hook the variable vacuum out of the carb to the distributor. It was the ONLY way I could make it work around where I wanted to mount my fuel pressure regulator. Its little crap like this that will eat time up like you wouldn't believe.

Man i cant wait to see this thing on the road! Do you plan on chassis dynoing the truck to see the true RWHP?

No, I will just be doing engine dyno only. The rest of it is what it is.........I cant change any of the parasitic loss.:D

I got my tranny builder nailed down. I ordered the TCI lower gear set for the 4l80e that has the 2.97:1 first and 1.58:1 second gear in it. I also got the TCI deep sump pan that adds another 4.5 qts and the tci synthetic fluid. I am tenatively scheduled to go on the dyno next Wednesday. If all goes good....the engine, tranny and front clip are coming off next weekend and the tranny is headed to the builder. He promised me a 2 day turnaround if I got the parts from TCI that we needed. I will select a converter when I can see how low it pulls on the dyno and what kind of vacuum the motor has. So, thats pretty much it until I get the engine dynoed.

Thanks for all the compliments....peace out!
:D

Know what I really love about your build? Not only is it bad ass to the absolute extreme, but you are able to make it happen with the quickness! Most other builds that are even remotely comparable, either have way less uber awesome, or take multiple years to reach "completion". I really don't think anyone on here ever though they would see a 572 powered suburban in their lifetimes! Thank you!

I really appreciate it. It takes alot of time, research, trial and error, and HUNDREDS OF HOURS of labor to do projects like this. I have a couple of friends that have done well financially and they can't pay anyone to do the kind of detail work like I kick out. The final dial in and the tune is where it all comes together and most people do not have the patience or the resources to do that last 10%....but its that last little bit that seperates all your time and money you have invested for your project to be a turn key dependable driver that you can enjoy and be proud of vs something that looks cool but doesnt really perform well. I also have a long list of failures in all kinds of 4x4, marine, and race applications. I found out the hard way......I paid for my education....but I kept at it and never gave up in my adventures and I have tried to learn from my mistakes. I also grew up poor so all of this stuff is still a huge deal for me. I lay awake at night and still cant believe that I have been fortunate enough to have things like this. Dont get me wrong....I work my azz off...but I have still been very fortunate to be too dumb to give up when I probably should have. The stuff that I build that makes no financial sense "or common sense for that matter" is way more rewarding to me than my career / daytime job. I know I don't have walking around sense......but I have alot of fun!!

If everything goes good I will try and shoot some video. I am doing it with all the accys so it will be a true number.

Now lets see how close you are to the numbers you predicted it would have.

No doubt. I am running to get some jets from a buddy of mine to take tomorrow. I was loading up and realized that I have 4 of every size from 80 to 100 but nothing smaller. This carb has 74's and 78's in it now so I am sure I wont end up in the 80's with the air bleeds that are in it. They are pretty small so we will see....but I want to be prepared. There is NOTHING worse than be on the dyno, 2 hours from home and not have something you need. I have the truck so packed with stuff.....I have a little hole to see out of.:D
