Pics of my Dana 60 14BFF Install

Hey guys!!! I'm BACK!!! Thanks for the concern and well wishes. My wife has been doing better. We went to the lake 10 or 12 times this summer and ran the hell out of the boat. It ran great and it was SO NICE to get out with the wife. The year before, the boat never even left the shop. I have been slammed at work. I have been getting home at 8 to 10 every night. My back recovery has been extremely frustrating but it has gotten better. I have to admit that there were several days of boating that my wife looked at me and told me that she was ready to go in.....I was ready to go in too. I can't walk out on the nose with socks on anymore. I can't keep my balance and I don't have the control over my left foot that I had before the surgery....but if thats all I have to put up with...I am in good shape.

When we stopped boating, I got the Burb back out and started driving it again. I found something out that really surprised me. If it is 70 degrees or less outside with no AC on, I have no loss of fuel pressure. Its is vapor locking somewhere (and the pump is too week to pull it when it is hot) So, I have been driving the crap out of it. (I still haven't put the new fuel system in it). My wife has been driving it everywhere because the dogs can go. I finally talked her into driving it and now I can't get her our of it. It has a little over 2,000 miles on it now.

I hooked up my wideband O2 this morning and started tuning. It was pig rich with the smaller headers (than Dyno) and the cats and muffs. I went from 76's to 72's in the primaries and adjusted the air again. Its amazing how much of an effect that adusting the air will have across the entire RPM and load band. Cruising around with no load in it, I am in the 13.0:1 to 13.8:1 range. When the secondaries kick in it is in the high 12's. The longer you hold it wide open, the more it comes down. I clamped down on it about an hour ago for a few seconds in the HOV lane and at 120mph I was at 12.0:1 which is Perfect to be safe at WOT. I want to put about 10,000#'s behind it (thats all the hitch is good for) and do some towing to make sure that it is not going to go to lean under more load. My gut tells me it is going to be fine.

Lets see....what else is new..... I sold my big RV. I listed it in Racing Junk and a guy from Texas bought it. I met him half way in Little Rock Arkansas. I finally gave in that I will not be able to 4 wheel like me and the misses used to do due to both of our health issues. We have been looking at Toterhomes with a big motor in it so that we can tow the burb and the Rhino on the flat deck trailer and have 40' of living space.

I have a this boat for sale where a friend of mine committed suicide at the end of March. I have sold the 6 door F650 and all of the other toys he had. (I am selling all of it for the estate to go to the family. I have also spent a ton of time doing all of this.) http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifieds/skater_399_vrod-o47000-en.html

This is a $500,000.00 boat. The market is just in the crapper. I started at $299,000 and I thought it would be gone in a week. The engines and and rigging cost what the price is at now. They are at 1320 hp per side on pump gas at about 12lbs of boost. If I have to drop it much more, I may buy it. It is sitting in my shop anyway.

I have really missed talking to everyone. I will follow up with the guys I talk via pm when I have time. I hope that everyone else is doing good. If I can ever help anyone based on my build, please don't hesitate to ask.

Top speed for 37" MT Baha Claw Radials

First of all, I know that driving a 91 Suburban at 120 mph and up with 9" of lift presents its own set of dangers. BUT, I do want to get out on the interstate where no one is and shoot a video to see if it will hit 140. The tires don't show any signs of dry rot and they have about 6K miles on them. (I put about 4K miles on them before the conversion) It was still pulling hard at 120 when I lifted this morning and was driving good given what it is. The tires are load range D and I aired them up to 50#s before I took off. That is the maximum pressure on the side cold. It drove much better at high speed with the extra air. I guess I am in uncharted territory. I feel like I won't live to tell about it if a tire cut loose at that kind of speed. Let me know if you guys have any diesel friends that have pushed up into this area of speed with radial all terriens of this size range.

Great to hear you are doing so well! We were worried!

Lots of people will tell you not to drive that fast, but if no one is around, i say go for it.

Worth reading into speed ratings, but those tires should be rated to 110 or 120, and that is for sustained speed, not short blasts. That being said, good luck up to 140. I have an older BMW 540i with a 6 speed, and i dont' think it will pull to 140 anymore.

120 is one thing in a rolling brick, but see how it feels once you get above that. If its smooth, you'll know it, i say go for it. You'll know when to back out of it. Clearly, you know your way around speed.

Good luck!

Nice to see you back here.
Also good to see your are still hanging in there.
Glade to hear the wife is doing better too.

Good to see that you and your wife are doing better and sorry to hear about your friend. Was he the other guy you raced for that speed record?

Yes he was. My buddy that built the engines (and taught me what I didn't even know I didn't know about building BBC blower motors) was driving it. In 2010, he beat me by 1 mph on Saturday. On Sunday he was light on fuel and he put 3mph between us for the win. I came in 2nd. I did not compete in 2011 or 2012 due to my wife's health in 2011 and my own in 2012.

I got pulled over by the MO water patrol that Saturday night for speeding. (They have a 35mph speed limit after dark and it was dusk. I was 15 miles from the condo we were staying in and I was trying to get back before dark. They kept me for over 45 minutes floating. They ended up letting me go because I was sober. When I left, I was so turned around that the trail on my GPS was the one back to the race track. Long story short, I went about 60 miles driving around lost until we found the condo we were staying at. My fuel gauge was on E. I had no idea how long we drove on E. So, I found a marina that had 110 race gas in drums. I bought a drum and then added 55 gallons of 93 because my tune was set up for 100 octane. I had more fuel than I thought I did even though it was on E. I need up with about 140 gallons in my main tank. If I hadn't gotten lost, I would have had about 40 gallons to race with on Sunday. As a result I was carrying about 800#'s more fuel than I planned and it cost me the race. I no we would have at least tied. But it was awesome to come in second to a best friend.

Thanks Teck. I hope you guys are doing well. How is your masterpiece coming along? I am going to read up on it tonight to get caught up.

Always remember the good times I say. Still sucks though, sorry for your loss.

Thanks Brother. He got into financial trouble and I guess he saw no way out. We are trying to move forward now and think about the good times. I grew up with nothing and I have no problem going back to it before I EVER did anything like that. But I have been humbled several times in my life and I have a wonderful spouse. His wife had been killed in a boating accident on lake Texoma several years ago and he never got over it. It was also the first time that he had gone backwards financially. It is easy to get your priorities mixed up when u take a couple of hits and you have a big lifestyle.

Good, Needs the tune adjusted, and there is a noise in the transfer case on the coast side. And still need to get a front drive shaft.

I installed the new bowls I got with sight glasses built in to verify float adjustment. Here is my wideband reading both sides individually and averaged together.

Glad your back and very sorry for your loss of a friend. Happy you got to get out with your lady and enjoy some time together. Hope everything heals up well if it hasn't already.

Awesome stuff! You have GOT to give someone on the forum your number so that we can at least check up on you and make sure your alright.

Thanks again man! Like kgb said, we tend to get worried when we dont here from somebody for a while. Especially someone with a 140mph capable burb on 38's!

I think this is a good idea for all the brothers out there on CK5

Seems like we are all turning into mother hens and worry about everyone even if we don`t know them except for what we read on this site.

Glad you are back too man! :thumb:

We, well some of us started a few years ago a SHTF list of numbers address and GPS coords. In case of something like what just happened on the east coast.

I just can't imagine a lifted Burb doing 140+... that's crazy stuff. Sure sounds like fun though :waytogo:
