Pics of the new dd/tow rig... '00 K3500 CCLB

Ok how about this...

I'll port the air flow sensor (since that's free... just a little time w/ the dremel)...
Then I'll build the stereo, (head unit, two way speakers in the doors and subs under the rear seat)...
Then I'll do the exhaust and tune from Blackbear...

I've been eyeing a 2" leveling kit for the front and some zero rates for the rear so I can fit 35's... but I think I'll do that after I add some power...

I say stereo too. I had a 454 vortec truck, had more than enough power. I may get shot down, but i have gotten more enjoyment on the street out of stereo mods than others.

Skip the leveling lift. Read some of the reviews in the IFS forum. Sure way to kill your front suspension, axle components, and steering. I killed mine doing that. Also...you're already getting like 10mpg...why get less?

Yeah I realize that... I worked with it for about 30 minutes trying to get it all lined up before I said forget it since I had other stuff to get done before we hit the road...
I was flexing it all over the place but it just didn't want to line up... I'll mess around with it now that we're back in town...

Here's some pics from the mountains...

Where were you at?

Avery, I bought that exact truck brand new right down to the color in 2000. Had it for 2 years and got layed off and had to sell it. My buddy bought it from me and still has it to this day. It had 26000 when I sold it to him and at 50000 the head gasket took a crap. He had it fixed and it runs good still. My son was brought home from the hospital when he was born in that truck so it has some sentamental value, I hated to have to sell it. Congrats on your new rig man.

Nice truck. I like that better than my buddies new 07 Dodge 2500 Cummins. He's paying $600 a month.:eek1::eek1:

That truck you have there is exactly what I've been looking for around here. For some reason I think I need one with less than 100K though...Hard to find at an affordable price.

Interesting... I'll do some more research on it.
A SFA swap is sounding like a good plan too though :D
Honestly I'm getting closer to 14 on the highway (where most of my driving is done)...

Where were you at?

Tenaya Lodge... 2 miles south of Yosemite.

Congrats on your new rig man.

Thanks!

Dont waste your time descreening the MAF, not worth the trouble it can cause IMHO

Hmmm I didn't hear about any trouble... I'll look into it a little deeper.

Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking... sure a diesel gets 5-10mpg more but at the same time the payment would be $600ish a month instead of my $280 a month AND diesel is more expensive in our area so this just made sense.

Yeah finding an "obs" chevy in this configuration is kinda tricky. I was lucky to run across this one.

It can cause a lean condition which in turn will give you some detonation. It also flows more than enough for your stock or even slightly modified motor.

Personally I just dont think the chance of a small gain are worth screwing up an expensive sensor.

Don't screw around with doing an SFA, if it doesn't come out super clean that looks like a pro shop did it, the truck's blue book just fell though the floor. Even if it is a good job, you'd then be limited to who would be interested in buying the truck, at still likely cheaper than if it still had IFS.

Drive the truck! Put some miles on it for a couple years and don't dump a bunch of money into it. Fix your door handle, mirror, and throw a billet grille in it if you wanted, but just drive it. You'll likely eventually trade it in on a Duramax in a couple years anyway.....

So how much snow was up there? I've got family in Fresno and they want me to take them snowmobiling, wasn't sure how much snow would be around your guy's mountain ranges.

I think that's probably some pretty good advise... I probably should just stick to the audio/exhaust route since that's not too terribly expensive but well worth it.
We already fixed the handle and mirror. The fender flare is being painted right now (in fact he said it'd be done at the end of the week so I might go pick it up today) and I'll get it put on so cosmetically it'll be set after that.

There is a TON of snow right now. That last storm dumped a lot of the white fluffy stuff. :)

I just got back from spending the day in Pismo... the new truck did great on the drive there and back as well as hammering on it in the dunes...
It probably wasn't the smartest thing but heck it's only parts... but even after an entire day out in the sand climbing bowls and hitting whoops it held together and everything is still tight.

parts get spendy, especially on these newer rigs. (i have a 99 yukon) question, where'd you get those fender flares and how much, if you don't mind? i cant find them for less then $300 unpainted.

They're factory fender flares...

Just check with LMC. The dealership bought me a new flare for the front passenger side since the one that was on there was cracked...

Avery, I found a couple of old pics of my 00' K3500 truck I used to have.

It's a twin!

What wheel/tire combo is in the last pic? BFG muds?
The black wheels look a lot better than my chrome ones... I need to ditch them for some steelies like the ones on my k10 :)

Yes, BFG mud terrains on Black D windows. 285-76 16's. I trimmed the bumper a bit. It was kinda fun taken a cutoff wheel to a brand new truck even if it was just the bumper. :D My bud has it now, My son came home in that truck when he was born. I miss it a ton, Pun intended. I wanted to do a straight axle conversion but it never happened.

Ok I'll get pics in the daylight sometime but these will have to do for now...

Some of them are a little ghosted :)

Just an observation, you said you were told it had a 1" body lift, but if you look at the second to last picture, there is a 3" body lift puck on top of the cab mount bushing. You can also see the plastic gap guards in the fenders, and the stretched out wire harness on the upperleft side of the engine bay. Be careful hauling massive weight in the bed, because it is no longer sitting on the frame, it is sitting on top of 3" spacer blocks. The floor of the bed is not supported by the frame and the load(s) that would usually be spread out over the frame are now focused on just the mounting points where the spacer blocks are. This isn't a problem on a truck that you four wheel or don't haul loads in, but since this is your tow rig, and you have the possibility of putting really heavy junk in the bed, your bed can actually bend or worse. Just trying to put all the cards on the table for ya.

Yep I know what you mean... If I had the extra cash I'd have that thing off this weekend! :)

Ideally I'd like to pull it off and go with an actual 2-3" lift only because I think a truck this big (and with this gearing) looks/works best with 33's... I don't think I can clear 33's w/o some sort of lift (maybe in the back but the front would rub for sure).

What do you guys think? Would it be worth while to pick up a 1" BL (since BL kits are pretty cheap) and swap from this 3" to a 1"? iono toss out your ideas...

EDIT: So the body lift pucks sit on top of the cab mounts (and bed mounts) so could I pull the pucks out and set it back down on the factory mounts or is there something they pulled out when they put the body lift on? Do you think I could clear these 33's at factory height?

You know what, I just looked and rdn2blazer just posted that he ran 385-75/16's (which are about 33") with just trimming the front bumper....

Hmmmm now you guys have me thinking... it sure as heck would look better w/o the BL on...
